Description
- March 26,1957. A. ABRAHAM GARMENT Filed Oct. 2. 1952 United States Pater it C GARMENT Arturo Abraham, Buenos Aires, Argentina Application October 2, 1952, Serial No. 312,767 1 Claim. (Cl. 2-115) The present invention refers to a novel garment or article of wearing apparel which, owing to its particular manufacture is light, inexpensive to make, very practical, and perfectly suitable for street, sports and like wear of any kind.
In fact it is an object of the invention to provide means affording the formation of a combination garment which due to its simplicity and its practicability in use, offers great advantages and savings in material.
It is another object of the invention to provide means facilitating easy handling of the article of Wearing apparel which in its appearance represents two combined garments, and may be considered highly desirable for all indoor and outdoor activities.
In its essence the novel article of wearing apparel consists of a jacket, preferably provided with sleeves which may be of any suitable make, and which may be fixed or removahly attached to the article, the jacket carrying at its front portion a row of buttons at one of its edges and corresponding button holes at the other edge, so as to render the possibility. of opening or closing the garment. Along these edges and at some distance thereof, disposed on inner portions of the article, there are secured two panels either permanently or removably disposed and Wnwhich, preferably, is of the fold-over type. e parts or panels have at their respective forward edges rows of buttons and corresponding button holes (or any other fastening or/sea'ling means). The garment may, moreover, be equipped with pockets, to vary the character of the garment finally given to the latter, be it for street, sport, etc. Wearing purposes.
In order that the present invention may be clearly understood and carried into practice, a full description will be given hereafter of one preferred form of realization of the invention, illustrated according to the accompanying drawing which forms part of the specification, and in which:
Fig. 1 shows an elevation view, seen from the front, of the article made in accordance with the invention and seen in open condition, i. e. with its front edges spaced apart; and
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but showing the garment in the closed condition.
In the drawing the same characters of reference indicate the same or equivalent parts.
It is to be noted that the article in itself has the appearance both when closed and open, of a shirt and an outer coat or jacket, ordinarily used as separate pieces and worn superposed one on the other, the object of the garment of this invention being that to avoid separately removable parts of said garment.
With reference to the attached drawing, 1 designates a coat or complete outer jacket having front and rear panels and shoulder portions, the front panels or front flaps 1a, 1b terminating in overlapping front edges 10, 1d. Front flaps 1a, 1b are provided, respectively, with complementary means, such as buttons and buttonholes 10, 11 (Fig. 2) for opening and closing said jacket 1.
2,786,207 Patented Mar. 25,195?
The front and rear panels 14, 14a; and 15 and shoulder portions 4 terminate in a neck opening 16, as shown, so that opening and closing of the jacket 1 may be efiectuated from said neck opening downwardly.
At the inner surface of jacket 1 lengthwise thereof and spaced from said front edges, there are provided front insert panels 2, 2 terminating in opposite rearward edges 5 5' which define a simulated shirt front. The front inserts or panels 2, 2' are fastened at the upper ends to the inner surface of said jacket 1 at the shoulder portions 4 thereof and further extend along the corresponding rearward edges 5, 5' and lengthwiseof and spaced from the forward edges 5a, 5b of said insert panels.
Adjacent opposite forward edges 5a, 5b of said inserts 2, 2 are arranged fastening means, such as buttons and buttonholes 9, 9a for closing the simulated shirt front which consists of the aforesaid inserts 2, 2.
Thus, when the jacket 1 is closed, the front flaps 1a, 1b overlap each other and underneath the overlapping front edges 10, 1d of said jacket there are located the overlapping forward edges or ends 5a, 5b of the aforesaid shirt front inserts.
The front insert panels 2, 2 are substantially coextensive with the length of the outer jacket 1, as shown, and define a neck opening 16a substantially of the same size as the neck opening 16 of said jacket.
A folded-over collar 3 is attached to said inserts and extends beyond the shoulder portions 4 of the jacket as shown, whereby upon unfastening of the complementary means 11 11 of the outer jacket 1 a closed shirt front 2, 2' with its collar 3 becomes exposed at the open front edges 10, 1d of the jacket.
As may be further seen from the drawing, the outer jacket 1 is substantially complete and comprises sleeves 12 with cuffs 6 and patch pockets 8.
It can thus be seen that there has been provided according to the invention a garment comprising an outer jacket having front and rear panels and shoulder portions, said shoulder portions and said front and rear panels having a neck opening formed thereat, said front panels having overlapping front edges and being provided with complementary means for opening and closing said jacket from said neck opening downwardly, front insert panels coextensive with the length of said outer jacket and having forward edges and rearward edges, respectively, and
designed to simulate a shirt front, said insert panels having a neck opening of substantially the same size as the neck opening of said jacket, said insert panels being positioned at the inner surface of said front panels of said outer jacket and being respectively secured at their upper ends to said shoulder portions and along their rearward edges to said inner surface lengthwise of and spaced from said front edges of said jacket front panels, fastening means positioned adjacent said forward edges of said insert panels for connecting the latter together and underneath said overlapping front edges of the front panels of said jacket, the forward edges of said insert panels and the front edges of said front panels of said jacket being in substantial registry, and a folded-over collar extending over the shoulder portions of said jacket and attached to said insert panels at edges thereof defining said neck opening of said insert panels, whereby upon disengagement of said complementary means of said front edges of said outer jacket said simulated shirt front in closed condition becomes exposed at said open front edges of said jacket.
It will be evident that the details of the combination garment herein described and shown are only illustrative and disclose only an example and that these details may vary without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention as stated in the claim.
