1 Claim.
, The present invention relates generally to new and useful improvements in mens apparel and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner hereinafter set forth, a garment of this nature in the form of a vest comprising a removable or detachable collar.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a garment of the aforementioned character comprising novel means for removably securing the collar to the vest, said collar further including a novel construction and arrangement whereby the front of the vest may, if desired, be tightly closed all the way up to the wearer's chin.
Still another very important object of the invention is to provide a garment of the character described which includes a novel arrangement of necktie or scarf.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a garment of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, attractive in appearance, and which may be manufactured at a low cost.
All of theforegoing and still further objects andv advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study tion, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein: V
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a garment constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the vest and the lower portion of the removable collar closed.
Figure 2 is a view in front elevation, showing the garment open.
Figure 3 is an elevational view of the removable collar. I
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a vest of suitable material which is designated generally by the'reference numeral I. The vest l is cut to provide a substantially rounded top portion 2 having arm openings 8 therein. The vest l further includes a back 4 and front portions 5. The or vertical edges of the front portions 5 are adapted to be detachably secured together through the medium of zipper fasteners 6. Or, if desired, the inside of one of the front portions 6 may be provided with buttonholes I for receiving buttons 8 on the outside of the other front portion 5. when the buttons 8 are used the front portions ii of the vest are lapped.
Detachably secured by a zipper fastener 9 to the rounded upper portion 2 of the vest l is a removable collar which is designated generally at "I. The collar I0 is of suitable material and includes of the following speciflcaan inner fold or band I I having depending therefrom chest or bosom portions 12, and an outer fold l3. 'It will be observed that the bosom portions l2 of the removable collar l0 extend downwardly below the ends of the fastening means 9 into the .vest i when said vest is closed.
The outer edges of the collar II! are adapted to be detachably secured together by fasteners H. The fasteners l4 extend from the lower ends of the bosom portions 12 substantially across the ends of the fold l3 of the collar Hi. If desired, buttons and buttonholes l5 and 16, respectively, may be substituted for the fasteners l4.
Extending across the collar Ill at spaced points are tapes I! which assist in maintaining the shape of said collar. Tie or scarf members 18 have one end portion secured to the removable collar l0 beneath the tapes IT. This is shown to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawings.
It is thought that the manner of using the garment will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the collar It! may be expeditiously removed, when desired,
through the medium of the fasteners 9. When thus worn the garment has the appearance of a conventional vest. When the collar I0 is in use the portions l2 thereof constitute a muffler which, when closed through the medium of the fasteners it, close the normally open chest or bosom portion of the vest. As seen in Figure l of the drawings, the upper front portion of the collar Ill may be left open. Or, if desired, the collar l0 may be expeditiously closed all the way up around the neck and under the chin of the wearer. The members l8 may be brought around in front of the neck and tied or they may be wrapped around the neck. The fold l3 of the collar l0 may be turned down substantially in the manner of a conventional cost collar, as seen in the drawings, or said fold l3 may be turned up in back of the neck.
It is believed that the many advantages of a garment constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of said garment is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
As a new article of manufacture, a collar comprising integral inner and outer folds, means for securing the inner fold to a garment, tapes extending diagonally acrcss the outer surfaces of the folds at intermediate points, and scarf members having one end portion secured to the outer fold beneath the tapes.
