This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a detachable garment collar.

The invention has for an object the construction of a garment collar which is adapted for childrens dresses and which is capable of being inserted and removed from place without fastening elements.

Still further the invention proposes constructing the detachable collar in such a manner that it tends to maintain its position. 7

As another object of this invention it is proposed to arrange the detachable garment collar with a band portion of soft material and of a width adapted to partially rest upon the shoul- 5 ders and connected with a collar portion.

Still further the invention proposes arranging the collar portion of another construction and design for example composed of more than one section and for example arranged with scallops or other ornamentation.

As another object of this invention an arrangement is proposed whereby the band portion may be expanded so that thecollar may engage over ones head and then be connected together for maintaining its position uponthe dress or other garment. It is particularly intended to arrange the expandible portion even though the vmaterial from which the collar is constructed is not elastic and at the same time the collar 0 whether into the expanded or other position is at all times of complete annular construction.

Still further the invention contemplates arranging an opening extending from the edge of the collar inwards to the band and down along the band to a point close to the bottom edge of the band, and an arrangement for normally holding saidopening closed. When said opening is released the collar may be expanded so that the size through which the head passes is enlarged.

As another object of this invention an arrangement is proposed whereby a small elastic insert is arranged upon the band at the portion where the opening mentioned in the previous paragraph terminates. More particularly it is proposed to arrange the elastic band transversely along the bottom edge of the collar point and to form the sides of the opening free from the edge of the elastic band.

Furthermore as another object of this invention it is proposed to construct a collar according to a modification wherein it is formed with an opening so that the collar may be extended out from the annular shape.

Still further the invention proposes the construction of a detachable collar which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

The detachable garment collar according to this invention comprises a band portion 10' of soft material and of a width so as to partially rest upon the shoulders of a wearer of the collar and connected along its top edge with a collar portion 11 by stitches 11'. Said collar and band portions 'are formed with an opening 12 extended in from the edge of the collar portion, extending comtending down the band portion to a point 13 spaced slightly from the free edge 14 of the band portion. A means is provided for detachably connecting the edges of this opening and comprises snap fastener elements 15 mounted upon one of the sides of the opening adapted to engage complementary elements 16 mounted upon the other side of the opening.

It will readily be seen that when the opening 12 is held'closed by the fasteners 15, 16 then the inner diameter of the collar is smallest, and the collar is in a position as when worn. The collar may be removed over the head upon opening the fasteners 15, 16; and then the opening through which the head may pass will be enlarged because the sides of the openings 12 will extend outwards and add to the diameter of the neck band.

17 and 18. The collar is formed with scallops 19 along its edge. Ribbons or ornamentation not shown may be arranged upon the collar portion of the article to add to its design.

Fig. 1 is a plan view showing the collar with the opening 12 closed. In Fig. 3 a bottom view of the collar is illustrated with the opening 12 partially opened. It will be recognized that the size of the central opening seen in Fig. 1 will be .enlarged when the-opening 12 is completely open.

In Fig. 6the dot and dash lines 20 illustrate a childs garment so as to show the relation which the collar assumes upon the garments. In Fig. 7 the garment is also illustrated with the collar in position. Still further the dot and dash lines 21 in Fig. 7 illustrate a lowered position of the rear portion 18 of the collar portion.

In Fig. 8 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed in which an additional arrangement is provided for expanding the size of the opening of the collar. This arrangement comprises an elastic strip 22 secured at its ends 23 upon the band portion 10 of the collar and extended along the free edge thereon. The opening 12 in the collar extends across the collar portion and down the band portion to the elastic 22 but does not connect with the elastic. This construction produces flaps 24 which are also not connected at their edges with the edges of the elastic strip 22. In other respects this ,form of the invention is similar to the previous form and corresponding parts may be recognized by. the same reference numerals.

In Fig. 8, fasteners 15 and 16 are shown disengaged. The 'size of the collar opening may be temporarily enlarged by merely applying force so as to cause stretching of the elastic 22. When the fasteners 15 and 16 are connected the collar will be in its natural position as when worn. A feature of the collar lies in the fact that its size may be temporarly increased so that it may be immediately removed over the head of a wearer, but at all times it is of annular construction so that when worn it cannot be accidentally lost by reason that the means for holding the opening together, accidentally opens.

In Fig. 9 another variation of the invention has been disclosed in which a detachable garment collar is illustrated comprising a band portion 30 connected with a collar portion 31. The band portion is similar to the band portion described in the previous form, that is, of frusto-conical construction. This may be seen by realizing that the inner edge of the band portion corresponds with the line 32 which also corresponds with the inner side of the collar portion 12. An opening 33 is formed in the collar portion and band portion of the garment collar arranged so that the collar may be completely open. A button 34 is attached upon one side of the opening immediately at the junction between the band and the collar portions and is adapted to be engaged by a button hole member 35, in the form of a loop, so as to hold the collar in a closed position. The collar 31 is shown with several fluted openings 36 merely ,for ornamental purposes.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-

1. A detachable garment collar, comprising a band portion of soft material of a width to partially rest upon the shoulders of a wearer, a collar portion attached upon said band portion, said portions having an opening extended in from the edge of the collar portion completely across the collar portion and partially across the band portion terminating near the free edge of the band portion, and detachable means for connecting the edges of the opening together.

2. A detachable garment collar, comprising a band portion of soft material of a width to partially rest upon the shoulders of a wearer, a collar portion attached upon said band portion, said portions having an opening extended in from theclDO edge of the collar portion completely across the collar portion and partially across the band portion terminating near the free edge of the band portion, and detachable means for connecting the edges of the opening in the band portion together.

3. A detachable garment collar, comprising a band portion of soft material of a width to partially rest upon the shoulders of a wearer, a collar portion attached upon said band portion, said portions having an opening extended in from the edge of the collar portion completely across the collar portion and partially across the band portion terminating near the free edge of the band portion, and detachable means for connecting the edges of the opening in the band 115 portion together, comprising snap fastener elements along one of the sides of said collar adapted to engage corresponding elements along the other side.

4. A detachable garment collar, comprising ag band portion of soft material of a width to partially rest upon the shoulders of a wearer and having an elastic section on one edge, a collar portion attached upon the other edge of said band portion, said portions having an opening extended in from the edge of the collar portion completely across the collar portion and partially across the band portion terminating near the free edge of the band portion at the edge of said elastic, and detachable means for connecting the edges of {1130 the opening in the band portion together.

5. A detachable garment collar, comprising a band. portion of soft material of a width to partially rest upon the shoulders of a wearer and having an elastic section on one edge, a collar .1135 portion attached upon the other edge of said band portion, said portions having an opening extended in from the edge of the collar portion completely across the collar portion and partially across the band portion terminating near the free edge of the band portion at the edge of said elastic, and detachable means for connecting the edges of the opening in the band portion together, the ends of said strip being attached upon said band. 1. 45

portion, said portions having an opening extended in from the edge of the collar portion completely across the collar portion and partially across the band portion terminating near the free edge of the band portion at the edge of said elastic, and detachable means for connecting the edges of the opening in the band portion together, the ends of said strip being attached upon said band, and the edges of said strip being free.

A detachable garment collar, comprising a band portion of soft material of a width to partially rest upon the shoulders of a wearer and having an elastic section on one edge, a collar portion attached upon the other edge of said band portion, said portions having an opening extended in from the edge of the collar portion com pletely across the collar portion and partially across the band portion terminating near the free edge of the band portion at the edge of said elastic, and detachable means for connecting the edges of the opening in the band portion together, the ends of said strip being attached upon said band, and the edges of said strip being free, said band portion therefore having free portions, and said holding means being arranged upon said free portions.
