To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MISSOURI A. NARMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort "Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain useful Improvements in Collars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The present invention has reference generally to improvements in that class of inventions known as apparel, and more particularly relates to a collar..

As an aim and object, this invention contemplates the provision of a collar designed for application on a specially constructed shirt band without the aid of a collar button, thus obviating possible injury to the neck of the wearer and increasing the comfort of the wearer.

It is an equally important object of this invention to provide a collar wherein the construction also permits of a fastening of the collar by a collar button, if desired so that the collar may be used in connection with shirt bands of the present conventional construction.

More particularly this invention embraces the provision of a collar wherein the tabs thereof are constructed so as to be readily and quickly arranged in removable interlocked engagement with each other to fasten the collar in the proper position.

Among the other aims and objects of this invention may be recited the provision of a device of the character mentioned wherein the parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production low and the efficiency high.

Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which for a clear understanding of the invention should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed for the purpose of illustration a convenient and satisfactory embodiment of the invention. It is to be noted in this connection that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the principle of operation of the various parts.

Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is provided a collar indicated in its entirety by the numeral 1, preferably of the turn-over tvne and consisting of an inner wall 2 from the upper edge of which continues an outer wall 3 arranged in close relation with. the inner 1 wall as indicated. An inner tab 4 continues from one end of the inner wall while an outer tab 5 continues from the opposite ends thereof.

lVith a view toward providing an im proved means for removably fastening the tabs to each other, the inner tab 4 is provided with a diagonal slot 6 extending downwardly from the upper edge at a point in substantial alinenient with the upper end edge of the outer wall 3 and projecting toward the outer edge of the tab and terminating in an opening 7 and positioned approximately centrally of the tab for accommodating a collar button, and in addition forming a substantial tongue 8 on the outer portion of the tab for a purpose which will presently be described.

The outer tab 5 is also provided with a diagonal slot 9 extending upwardly and also attached to the tab at a point in substantial alinement with the adjacent end edge of the outer wall of the collar and projecting toward the outer edge of the tab and terminating in an opening 10 adapted for engagement with a collar button. This slot in addition provides a tongue 11 for interlocking engagement with the other tongue.

In order to attach the rear of the collar to the back of the shirt band a tab 12 is secured through the medium of substantial securing means, such as stitches 13 to the inner wall 2 and is provided with the diagonal slot 14. extending from the upper edge of the tab and terminating in an opening 15. The tab is adapted for engagement with In applying the collar, it it is desired to use the same without the employment of a collar button, the tab 12 is first adapted to be engaged on the complemental tab of a shirt band not shown, while the tab 4: is adapted to be engaged in a somewhat similarly constructed tab, not shown, also carried by the neck band. Subsequent to this engagement, the tab 5 is lifted to permit of the slot 9 being arranged in the slot 7 so that the tongues 11 and 8 respectively, provided on the tabs .5 and at by the slots 9 and 6 will be readily arranged in interlocked engagement with each other, the tongue 8 lying on the inner surface of the inner wall while the outer tongue 11 will lie between the

2 and 3 in the manner indicated in Fig. 2. Of course, it the conventional form of shirt band is used, collar buttons not shown are attached thereto in the customary manner to permit of the engagement of the opening if) in the tab 12 and consequently permit of the engagement of the tabs 41: and 5 with the front collar button, not shown, in the customary manner. Of course, by reason of the fact that the slots. 6 and 9 extend in opposite directions, the openings will cooperate to prevent movement of the tabs with respect to the collar buttons.

It is believed that in View of the foregoing description, a further detailed description of the invention is entirely unnecessary, Like- Copies of this patent may be obtained for wise it is believed the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shownin the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limited sense.

Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

A collar including an inner wall, an outer wall continuing from the upper edge thereof, an innertab continuing from one end of the inner wall and provided with a diagonal slot extending downwardly from the upper edge and projecting toward the outer edge and terminating in a collar button receiving opening positioned centrallyot the tab, the slot forming a tongue ,on the upper portion of the tab, an outer tab continuing from the opposite end of the inner wall and also provided with a slot extending upwardly from the lower edge and inclined toward the outer edge and terminating in a button receiving opening positioned cen trally of the tab, and the slot in the outer tab forming a tongue on the lower portion of the tab designed for interlocking engagement with the other tongue subsequent to engaging the first mentioned tongue with a neck band.
