UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEo NOYES F. PALMER, OF JAMAICA, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGN- MENTS, OF TVO-THIRDS TO CHARLES S. GOODWIN AND HENRY R. HEATH,
BOTH OF NEW' YORK, N. Y.
BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,063I dated February 9, 1886.
Application tiled August 27, 1885. Serial No. 175,449. (No model.)
.To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NoYEs F. PALMER, of Jamaica, county of Queens, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Button, of which the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a button made with a removable cap-piece, so that the appearance of the button may be readily and easily to changed.
The invention is designed more particularly to changea button-such as worn on uniforms-- into an ordinary button by the removal of the cap while the button itselfremains on the garment; and it consists in the elements of c0nstruction hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a central section of my improved button, partly in side view, with the parts attached.
2o Fig. 2 is a similar section of the cap detached from the head. Fig. 3 is a similar section of the head with the cap detached.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
A represents the cap of a button, adapted to fit upon head B. Ashoulder, a a', around cap A embraces the edge b b of the head.
Through the head B there are formed two apertures, D D, extending from face to face 3o of the head, and enlarged toward their ends, as at r r and s s. The apertures D D serve to receive two spring-hooks, t t', bent outwardly, and adapted to engage two counterhooks or shoulders, h h, formed by enlargements of apertures D D. I prefer to connect the hooks t t tothe cap A by means of a crosspiece, c.
The customary thread or cable holes for fastening the button to the garment are made in head B, as shown. 4o
The operation of the button is as follows: The head B is sewed to the garment, and then the cap A is placed over the head, so that hookst t engage shoulders h h'. Thus the cap is held in place. To remove the cap, the hooks tt are pressed toward each other by means of the fingers introduced through the enlargements s s of apertures D D. Thus the hooks are disengaged from the shoulders and the cap is free to be withdrawn.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination of cap A, provided with hooks t t', with head B, provided with apertures D D', said apertures being enlarged to form shoulders h h', substantially as specified. 55
2. The combination ofcap A, provided with hooks t t, with head B, provided with apertures D D', said apertures being enlarged at their upper and lower ends, substantially as specified.
