SAMUEL S. KORNREICH, OF WARREN, PENNSYLVANIA.
CAST-OFF FOB SUSPENDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1914.
Application filed October 7, 1912. Serial No. 724,467.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. KoRN- REICI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warren, in the county of Warren and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cast-Ofis for Suspenders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Wlll enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cast-offs for suspender ends, and its object is to cheapen and yet to strengthen said devices. This ob ect is accomplished by forming the cast-0E of a single piece of material, preferably leather, folded upon itself in such a manner that the parts of the separable fastener may be employed for holding the folded parts together and strengthening the whole.
To this end the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which my improved cast ofl is constructed. Fig. 2 is an outer side View of the cast off showing the suspender connecting tab in open position. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the tab in operative position and the suspender attaching loop engaged therewith. Fig. 4 is a central vertical section taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an inner side view of the finished cast off as shown in Fig. 8.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the cast ofi showing the button engaging ends thereof fiat or before being folded and stitched.
My improved suspender end or cast off is constructed from a single piece of leather or other suitable material and is cut or stamped with a die into the form best seen in Fig. 1
of the drawings. The blank therein illustrated comprises two parallel tabs 1 having button-holes 2 near their lower ends and their upper ends connected by a transverse shank 11, and between the tabs a depending tongue 3, preferably of a width to fill the space between the inner edges of said tabs so that no material is lost. The shank is pierced with an opening or hole 4, and the tongue is pierced with a corresponding opening or hole 14 and near its lower end with a somewhat larger opening or hole 5, the openings 14, 1 and 5 being provided to receive the members of a cast 01f fastening hereinafter described.
In forming the cast olf the tongue 3 is turned back on the line a and folded upwardly against the rear side of the upper end of the cast off in which position the tongue is securely fastened by a stud 5 riveted through the holes 4 and 14 which register at this time, and the outer end of which forms the head member 6 of a resilient head and socket fastening. The socket member 7 is riveted in the opening 5 1n the end of the tongue as shown. When thus arranged, the head 6 on the outer end of the stud will be in position to receive the socket 7 when the outer end of the tab is folded down on the line 6 against the outer side of the upper end 11 of the cast ofi, after being engaged with the suspender attaching eye or loop 8 which is carried by and forms a connecting link between the suspender end and the cast-off. If desired, the upper portion of the tabs may have their edges folded back and stitched together as shown at 9 wherebv a more ornamental and somewhat stronger cast olf is formed, or may be left fiat or plain as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings.
My improved cast off when constructed as herein shown and described will be most economical both in a saving of material and also in time and labor required for constructing the same and, therefore, may be produced at a much less cost than suspender ends or cast offs of a similar nature.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A suspender cast-01f Whose body portion is constructed of a single piece of sheet material cut to form spaced parallel tabs and a transverse shank connecting them and pierced with a hole, and a tongue depending from the shank between said tabs and pierced with a hole of the size of that mentioned and in its lower end with a larger hole, the tongue being bent up on a line co- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set incident With the lower edge of said shank my hand in presence of two subscribing Wit- 10 so as to bring the smaller holes in register; nesses.
combined With a separable fastener Whose 5 head member is riveted through said regis- SAMUEL KORNREIOH' tering holes, and Whose socket member is Witnesses: secured in said additional hole, the Whole for ARTHUR G. ELDRED, use substantially as hereinbefore described. CI-IARLEs E. BARDWELL.
