(I\I0 Model.)
B. J. KRAETZER.
GLOVE PASTENER. No. 424,795. Patented Apr. 1,1890;
illllllllil-lllll UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDI/VIN J. KRAETZER, OF GLOVERSVILLE, NEIV YORK, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO THE CONSOLIDATED FASTENER COMPANY, OF PORT- LAND, MAINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,795, dated April 1, 1890.
Application filed September 19, 1889. Serial No. 324,397- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN J. KRAETZER, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Gloversville, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glove-Fasteners, of which the following is a full specification.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figurel shows in section the outer springstud. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the inner rivetingstud; Fig. 4, a sectional view of the fasteningcollet, Fig. 5 of the tubular flanged rivet, Fig. 6 of the spring-stud, riveting-stud, and collet fastened together; and Fig. 7 shows in section the complete button member of the fastener.
My invention consists of an improved springbutt-on member of a fastener for gloves and other articles, as hereinafter described.
I preferably make this button member in four separate parts or elements A, B, O, and D, of whichA is a spring-flanged stud struck up in the shape shown from sheet metal, being preferably struck up whole and unresilient and afterward made resilient by the out or slit a, which divides the head of the stud into two spring parts, while the flange which is integral with the head of the stud is whole and uncut. B is the inner stud, also struck up from sheet metal and having a smooth head of such a size as to be pressed Within the head of the spring-stud, with the flanges of the two studs in contact, and of such a shape as to accomplish the riveting together of the parts, as presently to be explained. O is a collet or connecting-piece whose flange rests above the flange of the spring-stud A, and whose downwardly-projecting tubular portion is clinched in under and around the flange of the stud B, thus fastening the two studs firmly together, as shown in Fig. 6. The three parts A, B, and O thus fastened together are placed above the leather or fabric of the glove or other article to which the button member is to be attached, while the tubular portion of the flanged rivet D is passed upward from beneath through a hole in the said leather or fabric and into the head of the inner stud B, the said tubular portion being of such a size as to easily enter the contracted neck of the stud, and of such shape that when pressed between suitably-shaped dies the tubular rivet is headed out within the head of the riveting-stud B, securing the fastener firmly to the leather or fabric, which is squeezed between the flanges of the rivet D and the stud B in the manner shown in Fig. 7.
The sp ring-button member thus constructed is adapted to engage with an unresilient button-hole or socket member of any approved constructionsuch, for instance, as an ordinary eyelet secured to the opposite flap of a glove or other article.
I claim- A button member of a glove or other fastener, consisting of the combination, with the outer struck up stud A, provided with the slit a cut down from above and having a smooth unbroken flanged base integral with the head of said stud, of an inner rivetingstud 13, a collet O, and a tubular rivet D, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EDWIN J. KRAETZER.
