VERNER FIOHTENBERG, OF N EV YORK, N. Y.
PlN-FASTENER FOR NECKTI ES.
EPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,782, dated October 6, 1885.
Application filed August 20, 1884. Serial No. 141,081. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WERNER FIOHTENBERG, ofthe city, county, and State ofNew York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pin Holders or Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a clear and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in pin-fasteners for neckties; and it consists in the construction, novel combination, and adaptation of devices, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a representation of a side of a necktie-shield showing my improvements applied. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the opposite side. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the lines a; x of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a View of the pin detached.
Referring by letter to the said drawings, D indicates a necktie-shield, which may be of any suitable material such, for instance, as pasteboard.
E indicatesan eyelet for securing the pin to the shield, and A indicates the pin. This pin may be of the known form, having the usual head removed, or it may be formed from a suitable piece of wire having one end pointed.
In construction the shield is perforated at the desired point and the eyelet inserted therein. The pin having a sufficient portion of its blunt end bent to form an eye, (2, is placed over the trunk of the eyelet, as shown. The edges of the latter are turned over or flanged, as shown, the pin having been bent and passed through the shield beneath the eyelet on the opposite side. Thus it will be seen that the trunk of the eyelet is projected from the shield so as to leave an interspace between the flange adjacent to the pin and the shield, so that a pin may be replaced without removing the eyelet should the pin thereon become broken or injured.
I am aware that it is not new in tag-fasteners to provide a card with an eyelet, and bend a double-pointed wire around the eyelet, with its free ends bent and passed through the cardin opposite directions, so that the card may be attached to an article from opposite sides, and therefore do not claim such construction, broadly.
In my device it will be seen that but a single-pointed pin is used, and that a sufficient portion of the trunk of the eyelet is left exposed for the attachment of the pin. This construction is particularly advantageous in neckties, as any one may attach a pin to the scarf or tie should the pin thereon become broken or injured.
Having described my invention, what I claim is The combination of the shield D, the eyelet E, secured thereto, as shown, with a portion of its trunk extended so as to form an interspace between the flange b of the eyelet and the adjacent side of the shield, and the pin having its upper end bent around the eyelet in the said interspace and passed through the lower portion of the shield with its point on the opposite side thereof, substantially as specified.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York.
WERNER FIGHTENBERG.
