To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OSEF BAUMGARTEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide anew and improved form of necktie-securing device or metallic loop for use in'made-upshield-bows or neckties of the form used for wear with turn-down collars for securing such necktie or bow to the collar-button of a simple and cheap form of construction which, while easy of attachment to and detachment from the collar-button, will still hold the tie firmly in position thereon against any accidental displacement.

Such invention is fully shown and described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, wherein similar letters of reference designate like or equivalent parts wherever found throughout the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a rear View of the shield of a necktie with my improved securing device or 001- lar-button loop attached thereto, the securing bent-over portion of the bend or tongue being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, wherein the securing device or collar-button loop is secured to the shield in a slightly-different position, so that the same will be slipped upon the collar-button shank from the left instead of from the top, as is the case with the manner of securing the device shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a View in perspective of my improved securing device or collar-button loop.

Referring to the drawings, A is the necktieshield, secured tothe bow (shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2) by stitching in the usual manner, and B is myimproved form of necktie-securing device or collar-button loop.

As shown in Fig. 1 and in detail in Fig. 3, the collar-button loop consists of a short piece of resilient spring-wire bent tightly back upon itself at the center to form a central bend or tongue a, which widens out into a spring-loop portion b, from thetop of which loop the wires forming the same extend at a right angle into a plane, curving first toward and then away from and then contacting at the beginning of a twisted portion 0 in such manner as to form a shank-holding loop d, having where it merges with the spring-loop l) a contracted neck 6. The twisted portion 0 is substantially parallel with the springloop b, and from the bottom thereof parallel with the shank-holding loop (I the two wires extend in a supporting-base portion ftoward the spring-loop Z) in substantially the same plane as the bottom side wings g of such loop I) a short distance, and at the end of such base portion h so formed, as shown in Fig. 3, such wires turn downward parallel with the central bend portion a into fasteningwires 'i and k, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The improved necktie-securing device or collar-button loop, so formed may be secured to the necktie-shield and the necktie in various positions. In Figs. 1 and 2 I have shown two of such positions, in either of which the manner of securing such collar-button loop thereto is the same, except that the loop in Fig. 1 is arranged vertically and in Fig. 2 horizontally. In either case a perforation Z is formed in and. through the shield B at the proper point to receive the central bend or tongue (1, adjacent to which are provided like perforations m and n, and after the bend a has been passedthrough hole Z and the fastening-wires 2' and 7a through their respecv tive holes 1n and n the ends of such wires and bend or tongue are turned and clenched down upon the rear side of the shield into the position shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2 or into any suitable position, so as to clamp the shield between such turned-down portions and the base portion f and the side-wing portion g of the spring-loop in such manner as to firmly secure the loop 0 to the shield, after which the tie is secured to the front of the shield A so as to hide the turned-down securing ends 1' and 7c and the turned-down portion of the bend or tonguea from view, after which the tie maybe securedinposition upon the neck of the wearer-byslipping the same upon the collar-button in a manner selfevident from thedrawings. It will be seen that in such operation the enlarged head portion of the collar-button will slip easily through the loop b, which is formed as shown .for such purpose, while the shank of the button forces apart the wires at the contracted point e and enters the loop (1, the wires of which loop when the tie is in position preventing the slipping of the same from the button.

hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A securing-loop for neckties formed of a resilient spring-wire bent into the shape shown, having a central bend or tongue widening out in an extension of the same plane into a spring-loop merging gradually ata right angle thereto into a first narrowed and then widened shank-holding loop, from the closed end of which shank-holding loop extends backward parallel with the spring-loop, a twisted portion from the outer end of which toward the spring-loop extends downward a base portion from which the two wire ends extend parallel with the central bend or tongue, substantially as shown and described.

2. A securing-loop for neckties formed of a resilient spring-wire bent into the shape shown, having a central bend or tongue a, widening out in an extension of the same plane into a spring-loop Z) merging gradually at a right angle thereto into a first narrowed and then widened shank-holding loop d from the closed end of which loop extends backward parallel with the spring-loop b a twisted portion 0 from the outer end of which toward the spring-loop extends downward a base portion from which the two wire ends extend parallel with the central bend or tongue a, substantially as shown and described.

3. In a necktie, the combination with a bow, of a shield secured to the bow and a securingloop formed of a resilient spring-wire bent into the shape shown, having a central bend. or tongue the end of which is passed through the shield and turned back against the same between the shield and the bow, which bend or tongue widens out in an extension into a spring-loop merging gradually at a right angle thereto into a first narrowed and then widened shank-holding loop, from the closed end of which extends backward parallel with the spring-loop, a twisted portion from the end of which toward the spring-loop extend downward a base portion from which the two wire ends of the securing-loop extend through the shield and are turned back against the same so as together with the tongue to attach the securing-loop to the shield, substantially as shown and described.
