ALVIN B. SOHUOKER, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
NECKTlE-BAND FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters IPatent No. 698,561, dated April 29, 1902.
Application filed December 28, 1901. Serial No. 87,567- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALVIN B. SoHUoKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading,Berks county, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in N ecktie-Band Fasteners; and I do hereby de clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in necktie-band fasteners, and is particularly adapted for use on that style of necktie in which the tie-string surrounds the neck and then passes through the body of the necktie, usually to be caught and held in position by means of a pin.
The object of my present invention is to overcome the objection to the use of said pin and the danger of being pricked thereby.
The invention is fully described in the fol lowing specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a rear view of a necktie with my fastener in position thereon. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 show detail views of the fastener.
The fastener consists of a plate A, provided with the usual perforations a near its edges for securing it to the body of the necktie. This plate is approximately rectangular and is formed with two spring-ears b, extending one from either side at right angles to the body portion. These ears are bent slightly toward each other and are arranged'so that their lower ends I) are closer than their ends 19 to form a binding-surface for the clip 0. This clip 0 is preferably formed of springwire bent upon itself to form a body portion, with its free ends bent away from each other and at right angles to the body portion, and is mounted pivotally in the ears I). The free ends or arms a, which enter holes in said ears, are provided with teeth or serrations c. The
clip 0 is bent down against the body A and thence along its surface and formingathumbcatch 0 at its extremity, which latter is set at a slight angle thereto, so as to raise it free from the plate A and permit easy engagement therewith.
The fastener is secured to the body of the necktie, as shown in Fig. 1, and the tie-string is passed through the usual opening therein and passes between the surface of the plate A and the clip 0, which clip will be raised by said string passing through; but when the desired position is attained the end 0' is pressed against the plate again and the string tie will be held securely between said clip and plate, the teeth or serrations c preventing the same from slipping. The inclined surfaces of the ears I) will give to the clip 0 sufficient tendency to keep it against the plate A, and when it is raised and released it will naturally seek its normal position against the surface of the plate A.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An article of theclass described consisting of a body-plate providedwith a series of perforations near its edges, and ears projecting from said plate, said ears being arranged at an angle to and inclined toward each other and provided with apertures, a spring-clip formed of wire bent upon itself, the forward end of said clip being bent slightly upward, and the free ends bent away from each other to form arms, said arms being journaled in the apertures in the ears, and teeth on said arms.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALVIN B. SGHUCKER.
