Beit known that I, JOHN EGLAHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in necktie-fasteners, and is especially adapted for use upon neckties of the construction described and claimed in Patent No. 7l6,704, granted to me on December 23, 1902.

The object of the invention is to provide a fastening of simple and compact construction which is adapted to engage a collar-button and which is also provided with means integral therewith whereby the flap of the tie may be securely held in position upon the knot of the tie.

The invention consists in providing a fastener having spring members adapted to engage a button and from which extends a hooked arm for engagement with a loop which is arranged upon the knot of the tie. Holding-hooks are also formed integral with the fastener, whereby the same may be securely fastened in position upon the tie.

The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which- Figure l is an elevation of my improved fastener, showing the same in position upon a tie such as illustrated in my patent before mentioned and' holding the flap thereof in closed position. Fig. 2 is aview showing the flap of said tie raised and the portions of the fastener upon the inner surface of said flap. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastener detached. Fig. i is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the fastener, showing a modified form of shank. Figs. 6 and 7 are a front elevation and a plan view, respectively, of a modified form of fastener; and Figs. 3, 9, and lO are detail views of other modified forms.

As hereinbefore stated, my invention relates to a fastener which is adapted to v be secured to the flap 2 and which serves not only to engage a collar-button, but also fastens the iiap in closed position upon the knot l. This fastener is formed in a single piece of wire, which is preferably twisted to form a stem 3, having a hook i at the lower end thereof. Parallel intermediate strips 5 project from the other end of the shank at an angle thereto and are provided with downwardly-extending spring members 6, the intermediate portions of which are extended laterally to form an aperture 7 for the reception of a collarbutton. Arms 8 extend upward from the lower ends of the spring members 6 and are provided with inwardly-projecting extensions 9, having downwardly-extending hooked arms lO arranged at the rear ends thereof.

The fastener is attached to the iiap 2 of the tie by inserting the hooked arms 10 and the shank 3 therethrough, so that the hook upon said shank will project, preferably, a short distance from the end of the iiap. The

hooked arms l0 are then placed in engage-A ment with a securing-strip 1l of cardboard or tin, which serves not only to prevent the ends of said arms from contacting with and injuring the flap, but also provides means whereby the arms of the fastener can be sewed to the flap, if desired. To fasten the iiap 2 in closed position upon the tie, it is merely necessary to place the hook 4 in engagement with a loop l2, which may be formed of wire or other suitable material. The spring members 6 can be placed in engagement with the Ycollar-button by merely forcing the shank of said button between them and causing them to swing apart and to receive the shank within the opening 7.

In Figs. 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 I have shown some modied forms of fasteners, each of which is substantially similar to the one hereinbefore described. The fastener illustrated in Fig. S comprises, in addition to the shank 3 and hook 4, outwardly and inwardly curved members 13, which are so looped as to contact, as illustrated at 14, and they extend upward and outward, as shown at l5, and terminate in downwardly projecting hooked arms 16, which are substantially similar to the arms 10, hereinbefore referred to. Fig. 9 the construction is similar to that illustrated in Fig. 8, with exception of V-shaped hooked arms 17, which are arranged at the ends of the upwardly-extending portions 15 of the fastener. In Fig. 10 the construction shown is substantially similar to that illustrated in Fig. 8, With the exception that the members 13 are angular instead of curved. In Figs. 6 and '7 is shown a modification in which the intermediate strips instead of being parallel, as shown at 5 in the other forms, are curved, as at 18, and the spring members 19 extending therefrom are crossed and curved to form anapertnre 2O similar to the aperture '7, before referred to.

In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination with a shank having a hook at one end, and intermediate strips integral with the other end; of spring members extending from the intermediate strips and forming an opening therebetween for the reception of the shank of a button, arms integral with said members and at the sides of the fastener, extensions at the free ends of the arms, and hooked arms integral with said extensions.

2. A fastener of the character described formed in a single piece of Wire and comprising a shank, a hook at one end of the shank, intermediate parallel strips integral with and at the opposite end of said shank, spring members extending from the strips and forming an opening therebetween for the reception of the shank of a button, arms extending from said members and at opposite sides of the fas tener, extensions to the arms, and hooked arms integral with the extensions and adapted to engage a securing-strip.
