Description

(No Model.)
H. W. BUEHLER. NEGKTIE PASTENER.
No. 604,365. Patented May 24, 1898'.
A TTORNEVS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. BUEHLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
NECKTlE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 604,365, dated May 24, 1898.
Application filed June 16, 1897.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. BUEHLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brook lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices for Securing a Necktie or Bow to a Collar-Button, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to, make and use the same.
This invention relates to a fastening device for securing a necktie or bow to a collar-button; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and also comparatively inexpensive.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a collar provided with one part of my improved fastening device; Fig. 2, a back view of the necktie or bow provided with another part of my improved fastening device; Fig; 3, a transverse section through the central part of the tie or how, showing the operation of my improved fastening device; and Fig. 4, a front View of that part of the fastening device which is adapted to be connected with the collarbutton.
In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views, and in said drawings I have shown at 5 an ordinary standing collar and at 6 a collar-button; and in the practice of my invention Iprovide a fastening device for connecting a tie or bow with said collar-button which consists of two separate parts, one of which is adapted to be connected with the collar-button and which consists of a spring-metal plate 7, the upper end of which is bent downwardly and upwardly to form a loop 8 and the lower end of which is provided with alongitudinal slot 9,whereby two spring-arms 10 are formed, the lower ends of which are curved outwardly, as shown at 11, and the lower end of the slot 9, is much narrower than the upper end thereof, as shown at 12. The other part of the fastening device is secured to the back of the central loop or band 13 of the bow or tie 14:, and consists of a longitudinal rod 15, the ends of which are Serial No. 640,977. (No model.)
secured to the back of said loop or band, as shown at 16, and the central portion of which projects outwardly, and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following statement thereof.
In practice that part of the fastening device which is adapted to be connected with the collar-button is placed in position, as shown in Fig. 1, in which position the shank of the button 6 enters the slot 9, and the bow or tie 14 is then connected with the loop 18 by means of the rod or wire 15, which enters said loop, as shown in Fig. 3.
Therod 15 may consist of a link or staple or any similar fastening device which is adapted to enter the loop 8, and it will thus be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of a device which is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to produce the result for which it is intended.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The herein-described means for connecting a necktie or bow with a collar-button, said ineans consisting of a device which is adapted to be connected with said button, and which consists of a plate the upper end of which is bent forwardly, downwardly and outwardly to form a loop, and the lower end of which is provided with a longitudinal slot, and a device connected with the back of said tie which is adapted to engage with said loop, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a fastening device for securing a necktie or bow to a collar-button, a plate formed of spring metal, the upper end of which is bent forwardly, downwardly and upwardly to form a loop and the lower end of which is providedwith a longitudinal slot forming springpron gs which are adapted to engage the shank of a collar-button, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 12th day of June, 1897.
HENRY W. BUEI-ILER.
