Be it known that we,CHARLEs WM. GROND and LOUIS J. GRONDE, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention is an improved necktie-fastener; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter fully described and claimed.

The object of our invention is to provide an improved necktie fastener for holding four-in-hand, bow, or pu neckties, and other forms of ties, in their proper place in relation to the collar and shirt-front, which is simple in construction, may be readily manufactured and sold at a low price, and is eiicient for preventing ties either from moving upwardly or downwardly while being worn.

The opposing mutually-engaging ends of the saidj spring-pressed bolts 5 'are beveled or tapered to a point, as 'at 7, to facilitate the attachment of the fastening device to the neck of the collar-button or stud, and at the outer ends of the sections 2 of the bar l are necktie-engaging devices 8, which are here shown as outwardly, forwardly, and downwardly inclined, and downwardly-diverging claws 8, which are adapted to be inserted in the fabric of the tie, as will be understood.

In the operation ot' our improved necktiefastener the same is first attached to the neck of a collar-button or Ashirt-stud by moving the fastener upwardly into the same, so that the bolts 5 spring apart to clear the neck of 4 to become' engaged therewith, the bolts 5 as they pass above the neck of the button or stud being moved inwardly toward each other into rengagement with each other by the springs, as will be readily understood, and serving to retain the fastener on the button or stud. The -tie is attached to -the'fastener by first drawing the tie downwardly over the claws 8 and then drawing the tie outwardly somewhat to, cause the said claws to enter the fabric thereof.

We do not desire to limit ourselves to the precise construction and combination of devices herein shown and described, as' it is evident that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of our invention and within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of theUnited States, is-
