DAVID STONE, OF NE? YORK, N. Y.
COLLAR-STUD AND NECKTlE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,207, dated June 2], 1887.
Application filed April 18, 1887. Serial No. 235,225. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID STONE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Collar- Stud and Neektie-Holder,ofwhich the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a simple, cheap, and durable device whereby the bnttoning on of a collar is facilitated, and whereby the necktie of the wearer will be held against creeping up above the top of the collar.
To the end named the invention consists of a stud or button proper provided with a folding shank or back, as will be hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l. is a perspective view of my improved collar-stud and necktieholder. Fig. 2 is a view in which the stud or button proper is shown in section, and in which the shank or back of the stud is represented as it appears when extended to a position to receive the collar. Fig. 3 is a view representing the device as arranged in connection with a shirtbaud, collar, and cravat, the said shirt-band, collar, and cravat being shown in section, and the head of the stud or button being shown in section, the shank or back of the button being represented as it appears when folded down to a position to hold the cravat in place, and
' Fig. 4 is a view of the rear of the button.
In the drawings, represents the outer shell or face of the stud proper, and 11 the inner spring-plate,whieh is formed with a central aperture, 12, and with a cross rib or ex tension, 13.
14 represents the shank or back of the but ton, the forward end of which is provided with a rectangular bar, 15, that fits within the recess formed by the rib 13,the shank proper extending outward from the bar 15,and then downward and inward, as shown at 16.
In applying such a stud as the one above described, the shank 15 is extended to the position in which it is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and is then passed through the neckband of the shirt. The collar, which is shown at 17, is then adjusted upon the shank, and the necktie, which is shown at 18, is placed below the shank, after which,it' the shank be turned down to the position in which it is shown in Fig. 3, the collar will be held to place in the required p0sition,and the necktie will be pre vented from creeping upward.
This combined collar stud and necktieholder will be found to materially facilitate the operation ofdressing, and at the same time it will add greatly to the comfortot' the wearer, preventing all possible chance of the shifting of the cravat.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a face-plate, of a spring-plate formed with a central aperture, 12, and a rib, 13, and a shank or back piece, 14, bent downward and inward at 16, and formed with a rectangular crossbar, 15, that is fitted between the spring-plate and the face-plate, the bar resting within the recess formed by the rib 13, substantially as described.
