NECKTIE-FASTENING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,870, dated August 4, 1885.

Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. HUTOHES, Jr., of Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, haveinvented new and Improved Fastenings for Neckties, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provzde a simple and reliable device for fastening neckties or cravats, in place of the elastic loop and other means usually employed. To that end, by perforating the collar-button and providing the cravat-shield with a spring-loop, I ob tain combined collar-button and cravat-fastener, as hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a sectional side view of the fastener, shown as applied to use. Fig. 2 represents the spring-loop detached and in larger size. Fig. 3 is an end view, and Fig. 4 a sectional side view of the button.

The collar-button a, of usual form and made of any suitable material, has an aperture, b, formed through its center from its head toits inner side and through the flange. At the inner end or flange the aperture flares out- Ward.

0 is a spring-loop formed of wire and attached at its ends to a disk, The loop is applied to the cravat-shield e by passing the loop through a hole, so that the disk at comes at the back of the shield, where it is held by the material afterward sewed on.

To fasten the cravat in place, the loop 0 is inserted into the aperture 1) of the button and pressed down until the outer end expands outward in the flaring portion of the aperture. This will hold the era-vat in its proper place on the collar in a secure manner. To remove the cravat, it is given a smart pull outward, so as to draw out the loop. This fastening may be used on any of the usual styles of neckties.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a necktie-fastener, the combination, with an apertured collar-button, of the disk d, provided with the spring-loop c, the said disk being adapted to be secured to the back of the cravat-shield with the loop projecting through an aperture in the same, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. The spring-loop 0, attached on a disk, d, combined with a button, a, having apertures b with flaring inner opening, substantially as described.
