To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOI-IANNA ConN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Button-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to button fasteners and has for its object an easy and effectual means for attaching buttons to garments without the aid of any sewing implement as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings where the same characters of reference are used in the different views to indicate the same parts.

Figure 1 shows the outside of a garment and several buttons attached by the improved means. Fig. 2 is an inside view of same. Fig. 3 shows the means for attaching a single button. Fig. 4 illustrates the at taching cord.

The improved means for attaching buttons herein described provides a very cheap and simple device which can be operated without any implement so that when buttons are needed in an emergency they may be ready and instantly supplied.

The device consists of a cord 5 of the necessary strength which may be of different grades for the amount of wear for which it is designed and at one end it is provided with needle 6 preferably made conical and of sheet metal having the end of the cord clamped within it. The other end carries a piece of sheet metal 7 bent into nearly circular form so as to envelop the needle and be clamped on same after the cord has been passed through the various button holes and the final stage has been reached.

The operation of fastening on one or more buttons is as follows: The needle point 6 is passed from the inside of the garment, so as to leave the clamping piece 7 on the in side, and the needle is passed through the button holes and in and out of the garment so that a row of buttons may be secured as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the final pass of the needle is to the inside and it is then placed within clamp 7 which is tightened on same and the loop completed. In case the cord is too long, its length may be reduced by taking up the cord through the hole by which it is secured and again tying it.

This device furnishes a convenient means for securing buttons to garments and it is obvious that minor alterations may be made to the needle and clamp without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

In the form shown in Fig. 3 the device is employed to secure a single button and in consequence it is long enough only to pass from one button hole to another and the two ends are then closed or secured as shown. Fig. 2 also shows the needle clasped by the clamping piece after the buttons have been secured.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I

1. In a button fastener the combination with a cord adapted to be passed through the holes of the button, of a pointed member made of sheet metal formed to embrace the cord at one end, and a semi-tubular bendable member of sheet metal having a perforation for receiving the opposite end of the cord and be clamped about the pointed member.

2. In a button fastener, the combination with a cord adapted to attach buttons and similar articles, of a pointed member secured to one end of the cord, and a cooperating yielding plate with a hole to secure it to the other end of the cord and adapted to prevent the cord from passing through the buttons and to receive and be clamped about the pointed member.
