Description
LJBONESTEEL. GLOVE-FASTENERS.
No..194.-,069. Patented Aug. 14,1877.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
LOUISA BONESTEEL, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVE-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,069, dated August 14, 1877; application tiled June 20, 1877.
To all whom it may concern of the construction and operation of the same,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the under or lower side of the plate. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. l, but showing the fastening attached to a glove by means of the loop at the end. Fig. 4 is a similar view, showing the fastening attached to the glove by the intermediate hook at the center of the fastener.
The object of my improvementis to produce a glovefastening adapted both to button and eyeleted gloves, and which is capable of adapting itself to the stretching of the glove in use by taking up the slack.
The invention consists of a fastener having a stud at one end, a closed loop at the other, and an open hook in the center, as and for the purpose hereinafter more fully described.
a represents the body of the fastener, which is simply a rectangular plate of suitable size. I) is a stud attached at one end, forming a button, which enters the hole in one lap of the glove-wrist. c is a closed loop at the other end, which stands inclined downward, and receives the small button on the other lap of the glove-wrist. d is an open hook lying intermediate between the stud and the loop, and serving to hook into an eyelet or hole on the opposite side of the glove from that which receives the stud b.
This device is adapted to both button and eyeleted gloves-that is, gloves which have either a button or an eyelet on the side opposite the attachment of the stud b. In buttongloves the button fits in the loop 0, as shown at the right in Fig. 3. In eyelet-gloves the hook d enters the eyelet or hole, as shown at the right in Fig. 4. The advantage is, that the same fastening is adapted to both styles of gloves.
Another advantage is, that the slack can be taken up when the glove becomes stretched from use, both in button and eyeleted gloves. In button gloves the loop at the end of the fastener is placed over the button. When the glove becomes stretched the hook is engaged with the button in place of the loop. In eyeleted gloves, when the glove becomes stretched, a hole is made back of the eyelet, and the hook is inserted in the hole, or in other eyelets back of the first.
Glove-fasteners are well known; but, as ordinarily constructed, they are not adapted to both uses, as above described, and are not capable of taking up the slack of the glove when it becomes stretched.
What I claim herein as new is- The glove-fastening consisting of the body a, having a stud, b, at one end, a loop, 0, at the other, and an open hook, d, intermediate with the stud and loop, as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUISA BONESTEEL.
