BELT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3, 1906.
Application filed August 8, 1905. Serial No. 273,273-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY SALISBURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to clothing, and more particularly to attachments therefor, and has for its object to provide a belt-loop which may be easily and quickly attached to a pair of trousers in position to receive a belt to support the garments.
Another object is to rovide a device of this kind which will include means for attaching suspenders to the trousers.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following specification, which describes an embodiment of the present invention.
In the drawings formin a portion of this specification, and in whic like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure '1 is a view of the loop detached from the trousers. Fig. 2 is a view of the attaching-plate. Fig. 3 is a view of the upper portion of a pair of trousers, showing the present invention in position thereupon. Fig. 4 is a sectional View of Fig. 3, taken longitudinally of the loop. Fig. 5 is a view showing the manner in which the attaching-plate is en aged with the tongues.
eferring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a loop 5 and an attaching-plate 6, the former consisting of a strip of metal 7, which is transversely reduced at its ends to form tongues 8, which are sharpened at their outer extremities, and at opposite sides of these tongues the ends of the strips are notched, as shown at 9, to form barbs 10. Adjacent to its ends the loop is provided with perforations 1 1, and in use the end portions of the stll'ifp are bent on lines lying inwardly of the pe orations 11, these bent portions being shown at 12 and extending in the same direction. The tongues 8 are then passed through the cloth of a pair of trousers at the waist thereof and are'bent to extend in opposite directions away from each other over the inner surface of the trousers, the barbs 10 being inserted in the cloth.
, The attaching-plate 6 has openin s 14 therethrough adjacent to its ends, an this plate is engaged with the tongues 8 and lies against the inner surface of the trousers, it being understood that the plate is engaged with the tongues one at a time, the first tongue being bent after the plate has been enga ed therewith and before it has been engage with the other tongues, this second tongue being bent after the plate has been engaged therewith. The inner surface of the attaching-plate 6 carries a button 15, adapted to receive the end of a pair of suspenders, and the plate 13 is provided with a plurality of perforations 16, through which thread may be passed to stitch the plate to the trousers, similar threads being passed through the perforations 11, if desired.
What is claimed is The combinationwith a garment, of a beltloop therefor comprising a strip having tongues at its ends enga ed through the garment, the end portions of the strip being bent to bring the central portion thereof into spaced relation to the garment for the passage of a' belt between the loop and the garment, an attaching-plate engaged with the tongues at the opposite side of the garment from the loop, said attaching-plate having perforations in which the tongues are received and a susender-receiving device carried by the inner face of the attaching-plate, said tongues being bent to extend away from each other over the inner surface of the attaching-plate.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
