PATENT ()EEIcE.
SUSPENDER-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 764,978, dated July 12, 1904, Application filed February 29, 1904:. Serial No. 195,941. (No model.)
['0 add whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. BAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chillicothe, in the county of Livingston and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Suspender-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in suspender-fasteners in which the suspenderbuttons on waistbands of trousers are not needed and at the same time a secure means provided for attaching and holding under- 7 wear.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of the fastener in question. Fig. 2 is a detail showing manner of attaching button to web of suspender. Fig. 3 shows the entire end of a suspender with the smaller middle fastener for the attachment of underwear.
The fastener can be made of various sizes suitable to the diflerent weights or thickness of the garments attached.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
This invention consists of a suspender-fastener (designated as A in Fig. l) which is attached to the web of the suspender B by various means, either by sewing or clamping.
The fastener is to be made of steel wire, With a twisted circular end C to give greater elasticity to the spring, the upper ends of the wire forming the fastener being soldered and incased with a circular band of metal at point N.
The garment is secured to the fastener by inserting the cloth into the opening 6, together with the button (Z, and pressing both down into the contracted neck f, loop 0 permitting the expansion of the fastener.
The button (Z is attached to the web 9 of the suspender, as shown in Fig. 2, by securing it to a metal plate 72. with two openings 70, the web g of the suspender being brought down back of plate 7L and drawn through the lower slot /r: and sewed to the Web g above plate, as indicated at Z.
I claim In a suspender-fastener, the combination of an open frame of springqvire, the sides of the frame inclining inward and downward to form a substantially triangular opening, the lower portions of said sides being bent to form the recess f and crossed at the lower end of the frame to form the spring-loop c. a supportingstrip for said frame secured to the upper cross-bar thereof, a clamping-button adapted to pass through the opening in the frame and to be forced down into the recess f, a plate carrying said button and formed with transverse slots near its upper and lower edges, a supporting-strip covering the back of said plate and extending around the lower edge thereof and through the lower slot therein and then upward and outwaidthrough the upper slot and secured in the main part of the strip above the plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS IV. BAUGH.
