BELT HOLDER.
APPLIOATION FILED APR.19,1904.
I my run ward Par/19 s;
d fTURNEYS WITNESSES FFICE.
HOWARD PARKES, OF NElV YORK, N. Y.
BELT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1 905...
Application filed April 19, 1904. Serial No. 203,833.
To (tZZ Ll/71,0711, 7 25 'llb/LZ/ concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD PARK as, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Belt-Holders, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved belt-holder which is particularly designed for use in connection with gentlemens belts and which is intended to secure the belt to the waistband of a pair of trousers, so as to hold said belt in proper position.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an inside view of a part of a gentlemans belt provided with my improved belt-holder; Fig. 2, an end view thereof; Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, but showing the belt or belt-holder connected with the waistband of a pair of trousers; Fig. 4, a back view of the holder proper with the strap which is used in connection therewith detached therefrom, and Fig. 5 a plan view of a blank from which the holder proper is made.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at a part of a gentlemans belt and at b, Fig. 3, a part of the waistband of a pair of trousers, and in the practice of my invention I provide a belt-holder a side view of which is given in Fig. 2 and a back view in Fig. 4, the devices shown in Fig. 2 being also provided with a strap 0, which forms apart of the complete belt-holder, while in Fig. 4 the belt-holder proper is shown.
The belt-holder proper is made of a blank d (shown in Fig. 5) and stamped from any suitable sheet metal, brass being preferred. The blank (Z is composed of an oblong body portion (Z provided centrally with laterallydirected members (Z one of which is provided at its end with a barb d" and also with a tongue d", the barb and tongue extending in opposite directions parallel with the body portion (Z The end portion (Z of the blank (Z is slotted longitudinally, as shown at (Z and the end portion (Z of said blank is provided with two laterally-directed members or fingers e and also preferably provided with two longitudinal slots (1 between which is a spring-tongue 0 In forming the blank (Z into the holder proper the end portion d is bent backwardly to form a hook f, which opens downwardly and the free side or arm of which is about half as long as the body portion of the blank (Z and in the end of which is pivoted a clamp f having a handle portion f which is looped, as shown at f. The side members, projections, or fingers e are then bent backwardly to form bearings 6 between which is pivoted a clamp e" of any preferred form, and the laterally-directed side members (Z of the blank (Z are bent forwardly to form a loop or keeper g, the barb (Z being bent backwardly and the tongue (Z forwardly and downwardly to form a hook lo.
In practice one end of strap 0 is passed downwardly through the keeper g back of the barb (P, which engages the end of said strap and prevents it from being withdrawn. The holder is then connected with the belt a by passing the hook 7t downwardly over the top edge of the belt, so that the holder proper will be at the inner side of the belt. The strap 0 is then passed beneath the bottom edge of the belt and up beneath the clamp 0 and the end of the strap which is passed beneath the clamp c is drawn tight, so that it will securely hold the belt. When it is desired to connect the holder and the belt in the waistband of a pair of trousers, the hook f is passed downwardly over the top of the waistband, so that the clamp f will be at the inner side of said waist-- band, as clearly indicated in Fig. 3. The arm f of the clampf is then swung upwardly, so that the clampf presses on the inner side of the waistband, as is also clearly shown in Fig. 3, and the loop f passes through the slot (Z on the inner side of said hook f, and the arm f of the clamp f presses on the inner side of said hook.
It will be apparent that a number of these holders may be used in connection with a belt, two at the front and two at the back being preferred, and by means of my improvement I provide a simple and effective belt-holder which may be quickly and conveniently connected with a belt and also easily connected with the waistband of a pair of trousers when ever necessary without the use of buttons, hooks, or any other kind or class of fastening devices.
As herein shown and described, it will be observed that the belt-holder proper, independent of the strap 0, consists of an oblong body portion (Z, the backwardly-directed hook f at the top thereof provided with the clamp f the backwardly-directed keeper 0" at the bottom thereof provided with the clamp 6 the keeper 5 at the front upper end of said body portion, and the hook /L and barb (i both of which are connected with said keeper. It will be understood, however, that changes in the details of the construction of my improved belt-holder may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages, and I reserve the right to make all such alterations therein as fairly come within the scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A belt-holder, comprising a fiat body portion having a backwardly-directed hook at the top thereof which opens downwardly, a clamp pivoted in the end of said hook, backwardlydirected bearings at the bottom of the body portion, a clamp pivoted therein, a forwardlydirected keeper at the upper end of said. body portion, a hook connected with said keeper and projecting downwardly, and a strap secured in said keeper and adapted to be passed downwardly around a belt and up between said bearings, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 16th day of April, 1904:.
HOlVARD PARKES.
