Be it known that I, WALTER F. PEET, a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a certain Combined Safety-Pin and Hook, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to construct a simple and inexpensive form of combined safety-pin and hook which is available for sezo curing in place different parts of dress and for other purposes.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined safety-pin and hook made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig.

3 is a top or plan view. Fig. 4is a view illustrating one of the uses to which the invention can be applied, and Figs. 5 and 6 are side views illustrating other forms of combined safety-pin and hook made in accordance with my invention.

The structure shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 is composed of a single piece of wire bent so as to form the pin 1, the spring-coil 2, the bar 3, parallel with the pin, the transverse shield or guard 4 for receiving the point of the pin, a loop 5, and a hook 6, said loop and hook being formed longitudinally beyond the end of the safety-pin structure, but in a plane parallel or substantially parallel therewith and the point of the hook being bent inwardly or toward the safety-pin, as shown. Said hook can therefore be employed for attaching any article of dress to another. For

- 5 instance, as shown in Fig. 4, the hooks may engage the upper corners of a dress-shield 7, which can thus be secured in proper position within the armhole of a dress by causing the pins 1 to engage with the lining of the dress on each side of the armhole, and various other uses for which the structure is available will readily suggest themselves.

The fact that the hook is in a plane substantially parallel with the plane of the pin causes the structure to lie fiat against any object to which it is attached, and as the inwardly-bent point of the hook is shielded there is no likelihood of said point of the hook being caught accidentally by the fabric lying against the same.

posite structure of one piece of wire in the manner shown and described, my invention can be adopted in connection with that class of safety-pins in which the shield for the point of the pin consists of a plate of sheet metal clamped upon the bar 3 and having apocket for the reception of said point of the pin, such construction being illustrated in Fig. 5, in which the shield or guard-plate is represented at 8, said plate being perforated at one end for the emergence of the wire which forms the hook 6.

When the structure is made wholly of wire, the employment of the loop 5 may in some cases be omitted, the hook 6 in this case extending directly from the bend of the wire, which forms the shield or guard 4, as shown, for instance, in Fig. 6.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patout- 1. A combined safety-pin and hook having a shield for the point of the pin, and a hook projectinglongitudinally from said shield,the point of the book being directed toward the shield and also toward the shank of the hook, whereby said point is below the top of the shield, substantially as specified.

2. A combined safety-pin and hook consisting of a single piece of wire bent so as to form the pin, the spring-coil, the back bar, a laterally-bent shield or guard for the point of the pin, and a longitudinally-projecting hook having its point directed toward the shield, whereby the latter serves also to protect said point of the hook, substantially as specified.

3. A combined safety-pin and hook consisting of a single piece of wire bent so as to form the pin, the spring-coil therefor, the back bar, a laterally-bent shield or guard for the point of the pin, a longitudinally-projecting hook having its point directed toward said shield and a loop interposed between the shield and the hook,substantially as specified.
