Description

No. 782,055. PATENTED FEB, 7, 1905. H. REYNOLDS.
GARMENT FASTENER AND SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 12, 1903.
(inventor.
UNITED STATES Patented February 7, 1905.
PATENT OEEIcE.
HENRY REYNOLDS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,055, dated February 7, 1905.
Application filed September 12,1903. Serial No. 172,947.
T (07/ 1071mm U 'Hl/(l/Z/ concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY REYNoLDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment Fasteners and Supporters. of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment fasteners and supporters; and its object is to provide a simple, durable, and inexpensive device of this character struck from a blank of sheet metal and which is adapted to be secured to a skirt-band.
A further object is to employ a device of this character which can be used for fastening a waist to the skirt and for preventing a belt from rising above the skirt-band.
'ith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of a skirt, showing my improved fastener secured to the band thereof. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the fastener and the skirt fastened thereto; and Fig. 3 is a central vertical section through the fastener, showing the same in engagement with a waist.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a plate having a hook 2 formed at one end thereof, and this plate has notches 3 adjacent the corners thereof for the reception of threads I or other securing means. A
large hook 5 is formed at the upper edge of plate 1, and the central portion of this hook is cut away, as shown at 6, the cut-away portion being shown in the opposite direction to form a hook I.
The plate 1 is adapted to be fastened to the band 8 of a skirt with the hook 2 adjacent one edge of the placket. A strip 9 is fastened to the inner face of the band 8 adjacent the other edge of the placket and adapted to be placed in engagement with the hook 2. The forwardly-extending hook 7 can be placed in engagement with a strap 10, secured to the outside of a 'waist 11, so as to hold said waist securely fastened to the skirt, and a belt .12 can then be placed over the skirt-band and under the hook 5 and will be prevented from slipping upward above the said band by the hook.
It will be seen that the device is extremely simple and inexpensive in construction and can be readily struck from a blank of sheet metal.
The hooks can be of any desired size and shape, and the entire device can be suitably ornamented.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A device of the character described formed in a single piece of material and comprising a plate having notches adjacent one end thereof, a hook extending inward from the opposite end of the plate at the lower edge thereof, a U-shaped hook atone edge of the plate and alining with the first-mentioned hook, and another hook between the sides of, and extending in the opposite direction from, the U-shaped hook and formed of material removed from the center of the U-shaped hook, all of said hooks being parallel with the plate and overlapping the same.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
