Description

No. 792,526. PATENTED JUNE 13, 1905. H. LOGKWOOD. GARMENT HOOK.
APPLICATION FILED 0011,1904.

PATENT OFFICE.
. GARMENT-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,526, dated June 13, 1905.
Application filed October 1, 1904:. Serial No. 226,814.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY LooKwooD, a citizen of the United States, residing at J ackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons designed especially for use upon trousers, and has for its objects to produce a simple inexpensive device of this character which may be readily and securely attached to the garment and remain permanently in position thereon throughout the life of the latter and one which will present a pair of oppositely-disposed portions or hooks designed for engagement, respectively, with suspenders or other garmentsupporting means and with a nether garment.
To these ends the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the button is formed, the blank being shown in completed condition prior to bending of the engaging members or hooks. Fig. 2 is a front view of the device applied to a garment. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 4 is a central section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, and particularly to Fig. 1, l designates the blank struck or otherwise formed from sheet metal or other appropriate material and comprising a substantially circular head or disk 2, having at spaced intervals partially around its periphery projecting and sharpened spurs or teeth 3, there being also extended from said head a primary elongated plate or tongue 4. Struck from or otherwise formed centrally within the tongue 4 and extending longitudinally of the latter is a secondary tongue 5, which, prior to bending, lies within a longitudinal slot6 in the tongue 4, which latter is of somewhat greater length than the inner tongue 5.
The blank having been formed as above described, the spurs or teeth 3 are bent at right angles to the plane of the head 2, while the tongue 4: is bent downward over one side face of the latter and then upward upon itself to I produce a primary hook 7 as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, while the other tongue 5 is bent in a reverse direction downward over the other face of the head 2 to produce a secondary hook 8, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4;, the pri- 'mary hook 7 being preferably upon the norment by and to support a nether garment,
while the hook 8 is designed for engagement by suspenders or analogous garment-supporting devices, it being apparent when the trousers are to be worn with a belt the latter may be inserted beneath the hooks 8, and thus be maintained properly in place.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I produce a simpleinexpensive device admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in View, it being understood that minor changes in the details herein set forth may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is A garment-hook formed from asingle blank of sheet metal and comprising a head having integral engaging spurs, a primary tongue folded downward and upward upon one side of the head to produce a primary upturned hook, and a secondary tongue folded downward upon the other side of the head to produce a second ary downturned engaging hook, the latter being composed of material struck centrally from the primary tongue.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY LOCKWVOOD.
