Description
M. JACOB.
BUCKLE;
APPLICATION man my 29.1sx5.
1 1 99,076. Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
INVENTOR A TTORNEY MOE JACOB, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
Application filed July 29, 1915. Serial N 0. 42,493.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mon JACOB, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in buckles, and particularly buckles adapted to be used on sandals, gaiters and the like, an object of the invention being to provide such a device which may be securely fastened to such articles and which will lie flat thereon.
Another object is to provide such a device which may be stamped from a single piece of sheet metal and will, therefore, be simple and inexpensive in construction and manufacture.
lVith these and other objects in view, my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, and will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved buckle; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the same is formed; Fig. 3 is a side view of the buckle showing the same secured to a piece of leather or other such material; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate cor responding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, ticularly to Figs. 1 and 2 thereof, a buckle, according to my invention, is stamped from a single piece of sheet metal, and comprises a frame portion 10 preferably of rectangular design, but which, of course, may be oval or any other suitable shape desired, a cross bar 11, oppositely disposed pairs of prongs.
l2 and 13 extending outwardly from the said cross bar, and cut-out portions 14 and is centrally of the cross bar and in the intermediate portion between the pairs of prongs. The blank thus formed is placed in a suitable die, and the frame is preferably given a curved shape, as indicated in Fig. l. The cross bar is pressed inwardly from the frame, and the prongs are bent downwardly into a vertical position. A tongue 15 is bent around the central recessed portion of the such that the buckle is held and more parcross bar 11, the bent portion of the said tongue forming an eyelet 16, so that the tongue is swivelly mounted on the cross bar and is prevented from lateral movement thereon by the recesses or notchesl l and 14.
The central cut-out portions 14 and 14 may, if desired, be provided with downwardly extending lugs 17, as indicated in Fig. 4-, the said lugs being formed by bending down the said portions instead of removing them. In placing the buckle on the sandal or other article, prongs l2 and 13 are forced therethrough, and the ends are bent outwardly, as at 18 in Fig; 3, thereby securely holding the buckle to the article.
It will be seen that with my invention, a very'inexpensive buckle is provided, which at the same time is especially efficient for the purpose intended, the construction being tightly at each end against the surface of the article, so that when the strap is passed therethrough it is securely held in position, so that the same will not become disengaged from the buckle, as with the present form of buckles in use, and there are no sharp projections to catch in the clothing of the wearer.
I have illustrated a preferred and satisfactory form ofmy invention, but it is obvious that changes may be made therein within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claim.
I' claim A one-piece sheet-metal buckle blank consisting of a surrounding marginal frame, a central crossbar integral therewith connecting opposite sides thereof, and two sets of elongated bendable sharp pointed prongs prongs of each set extending in opposite directions from said central crossbar longitudinally of the buckle and adapted to pass through the fabric and extend parallel therewith on .the crossbar between said sets having recesses at its opposite edges adapted toreceive a buckle tongue.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention,
MOE JACOB.
