Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1905.
Application filed February 9, 1905. Serial No. 244,857.
To all whom, it warty cancer-12,:
Be it known that I, DAVID MoRRow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Supporters and WVaist and Belt Retain "s, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the general class of clasps, buckles, and buttons, and particularly to that class thereunderknown as garmentsupporters.
The purpose of my invention is to provide a device adapted to hold a shirt-waist down, support the skirt, and simultaneously hold the belt in proper position, and to so construct the device that it will be simple and durable and capable of convenient and expeditious application and which may be worn without discomfort.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide-a device of the character mentioned which will be well adapted for the purpose intended and which while holding the waist and skirt in desired position will at the same time act as a belt-retainer.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character noted which will requirebut a minimum space, will not distort or bulge the clothing, or otherwise interfere with its-conforming to the contour of the figure.
My invention is more fully described in the following specification and clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a portion of a skirt and waist with my invention applied. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the device, and Fig. 3 is a top edge view thereof.
The invention consists in the main of a single-piece device a, of sheet metal or other suitable material, adapted to engage the waist, skirt, and belt and adapted to hold them all in position simultaneously. The device a is formed with a lip or hook b on its top edge and is bent downward parallel with the rear face of the body a. A tongue 0 is cut into the said lip or hook Z) and extends slightly above the top edge a of the body a, with its extremity bent down in an opposite direction to the tongue 0 and parallel with the front face of the body; Remote from the ends of the body a and on either side of the adjacenthooks 6 and 0 I cut tongues (Z. which are bent forward and upward out of the plane of the body portion a, leaving a space between their inner faces and the outer face of the said body. The extremities of these tongues are slightly curved toward the body portion, so as to bring the point thereof close to the face of the body a to form a spring-hook, which will prevent disengagement of the parts with which they cooperate.
The waist e is provided with a suitable loop or band f at the center, and over this the device is hung by engaging it with the lip b. The skirt 9 is provided with suitable eyes or loops h, one at either side of the vent on the inside, adapted to engage the tongues (Z. When the parts are so engaged, the beltis placed in position, and its upper edge engages the tongue 0. It will be seen that when thus in position the device is concealed and forms a simple and effective support for the skirt, while it positively holds the waist in position and prevents the belt from riding up.
The device may be used on any skirt and waist provided with suitable eyes and loops and may be easilychanged from one suit to another.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, a device of the class described constructed from a single piece of metal and comprising a body portion, oppositely-disposed and downwardly-bent hooks adjacent each other on the upper edge of said body intermediate its ends, and tongues stamped from the body portion, located on either side of the hooks and remote from the ends of said body, said tongues extending outward beyond the plane of the body and with their extremities bent inward and standing in close proximity to the body portion to form a spring-snap.
In testimony whereof I sign my name in the presence of two witnesses.
DAVID MORROVV.
