A. s. SMITH.
HOSE SUPPORTER. No. 593,130. Patented Nov, 2', 1897.
wtmaca X 6- Ci UNiTEn STATES PATENT rricn.
AMELIA S. SMITH, OF CENTRAL FALLS, RIIODE ISLAND.
HOSE-'SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 593,130, dated November-2, 1897.
' Application filed May 14, 1897. Serial No. 636,503. (Nomodeh) To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMELIA S. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Central Falls, in. the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable'others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in garment-supporting devices, and especially to a hose-fastener by which the stocking maybe securely held by the fastening without causing any appreciable stretching on that portion of the hose engaged by the clasps, and it is my aim in the present invention to improve upon the form of fastener upon which I have been granted Letters Patent No. 575,901, dated March 30, 1897.
In carrying out my invention I employ two metallic clasps mounted on one strap, one of the clasps being secured to the end of the strap, while the other slides on the strap. The under of the two plates may be provided at its upper end with a fixed or a hinged slot through which the strap is allowed to pass, while the outer clasp has its lower end bent at right angles in two directions and designed to engage in a transverse slot at the lower end of the under clasp and to retain the hose clamped between the two clasps.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form'a part of this application, and in which drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clasps shown as holding the hose. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section through the fasteners at right angles to their broad faces. Fig. 3 is a view showing the two clasps on an enlarged scale.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letters, A designates the strap, to the end of which is fastened the clasp B in the transverse slot 17. The other end of the said. clasp is bent at right angles in two directions, as seen in the drawings at a, and a. The second clasp O has at one end the right-angled portion, which is transversely slotted, as seen at C, and, if preferred, this end may have hinged thereto a slotted portion, instead of its being made integral with the shank portion of the clasp. Through the said slot in the hinged-or integral portion is passed the strap A, and the clasp is designed to slide on the strap as the hose is fasten ed or unfastened.
At the lower end of the clasp (J is a transvefse slot (3, provided to receive the lower bent free end of the clasp B in order to hold the hose, a fold in which is placed over the end of the clasp 13 before it is inserted in the slot 0. The extreme angle at the end of the clasp B forces the hose through the slot, while the right-angled shoulder of the clasp rests against the edge of the slot 0, thus securely holding the hose up.
When it is desired to relase-the clasps from engagement with the hose, the outer clasp B is pulled out slightly, the strap sliding through the slot in the upper end of the under clasp, and the lower angled end of the clasp B may be readily disengaged from the slot 0 at the lower end of the clasp C and the hose released.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, the hose-supporting fasteners, consisting of the plate 0 having at its upper end a rightangled portion integral therewith and transversely slotted, the lower end of the said plate transversely slotted in a plane at right angles to the upper slot, combined with the clasp or plate B having a strap fastened to its upper end, which strap passes through the slot at the upper end of the plate G, the lower free end of the said plate B having an angled shoulder, and designed to engage in the slot at the lower end of the plate 0 to support a hose therein, substantially as shown and described. V
2. As an improved article of manufacture a hose-fastening, comprising in combination the plate or clasp O with a hinged portion at its upper end which is transversely slotted and designed to receive a supporting-strap,
the clasp B, to the upper end of which the In testimony whereof I affix my signature strap is fastened, the lower free end of the inpresenee of two witnesses. clasp B being bent at right angles in two directions, forming a, shoulder and designed to AMELIA SMITH engage in a slot at the lower end of the clasp \Vitnesses: O and to hold a hose therein, substantially as ALBERT L. SHERMAN,
shown and described. JOHN XV. BATTY.
