Description

P. HIRSH. I FASTENER.
. 1908. 958,249. Patented May 17, 1910.
- v Q 47Lbl$5k Inventor:
by W.% n, M
UNITED STATES PATENT r FRED HIRSH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED HIRSH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a fastener or tongued clasp, and has for its articular object to provide a simple and e cient device by which one end of the strap of a hose supporter may be attached securely and without slipping to an intermediate portion of the strap to form a loop around the leg and leave a pendent end to which the hose is attached.
Withthis end in view, the invention consists of the construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of my: new fastener; Fig. 2, a section on line 2 2, and Fig. 3, a section on line 3 3, of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4:, a plan of the fastener illustrating its use ,in connection with a hose supporter strap.
Like reference characters indicate like parts inthe several figures. 7
Referring to the drawings, 1 is a thin piece of steel or other suitable material which constitutes the back or body of the fastener and cut therefrom and forming an integral part thereof is a tongue 2 which at its base 4 lies substantially in or slightly below the plane of the body and then is raised somewhat above that plane, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and terminates for convenience in an upwardly curved tip 3. The body is cut or bent away at the sides of the tongue to form narrow open spaces 5 .of a width sufiicient to accommodate the thickness of the strap or band with which the fastener is to be used, and the edges adjacent to the sides'of the tongue are preferably raised slightly, as at 6, for the purpose of stiffening the body and of increasing the efficiency of their action in cooperation with the tongue. The body is also preferably raised or upset across the base of the tongue, at 7, to giveigreater rigidity to that part of the fastener which is or may be pro- Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntedl May 1'2, 1191(1), Application filed December 26, 1908. Serial No. 469,411.
vided at each end with a slot 8, either open as shown or closed as indicated by the dotted lines, by which to attach it to the strap. As used in connection with a hose supporter (see Fig. 4), one end of the strap 9 is passed through the slots in the body of the fastener and then back upon itself to form the usual adjustable loop, while the other end 10, which is shown as doubled over and of half the width of the main port-ion of the strap, is first passed around the leg and is then drawn down behind the ton ue which, par ticularly at its base, will orce the strap back around the edges of the body of the fastener and so bind and hold it securely without slipping.
The fastener. is extremely simple and efficient, and, as will readily be understood, can be stamped out from a sheet of metal and completely formed by a single operation of a suitable die.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A fastener which comprises a body and a tongue out therefrom and forming an integral part thereof and having the body portion set back to form narrow open spaces along each side of the tongue.
2. A fastener which comprises a body and a tongue out therefrom and forming an integral part thereof and having the body portion set back to form a narrow open space along each side of the tongue, the said tongue being raised above the plane of the body but less than the width of the open spaces at its sides.
3. A- fastener which comprises a body and a tongue out therefrom and forming an integral part thereof, the said body portion being upset to form raised edges and leave a narrow open space along each' side of the tongue and the said tongue being at and near its base substantially in the plane of the body while for the rest of its length it is gradually raised therefrom.
In witness whereof, I have signed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
