Description

G. E. WINQUBST. DETAGEABLE BELT STR APPLIUATION FILED AUG. 24,
attent v cir-ARLES E. WINQUEsT, or OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
DETACHABLE BELTSTRAP- Specification of Iietters atent.
Patented Apr. 5, 1910.
Application led August y24, 1908. Serial No. 450,111.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. VIN- QUEST, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Belt-Straps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to wearing apparel, more particularly to devices for use in con necting a belt to trousers or similar garments.
It is the object of my invention to provide Vsimple and inexpensive belt-straps which may be removably attached around the waist-bands of trousers or similar garments, the attachment of the straps being made without sewing or the use of any device other than such as is provided by the straps themselves.
Devices embodying my invention are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a partial view of a pair of trousers equipped with the belt-straps, Fig. 2 is an edge view of one of the straps, Eig. 3 is a view of the inner side of one of the straps, Fig. 4 is a sectional view through the trousers waist-band showing the manner of attaching or removing the straps, Fig. 5 is a similar view showing a strap connected and the belt X in position thereunder, and Fig. G is a detail section of the attaching stud, the section being on the line of Fig. 3.
In carrying out my invention I provide straps l of leather or other suitable material on one end of each of which is secured a stud 2 having a conical pointed head 3. The stud may be attached to the strap by means of the rounded button-like disks 4 and 5, the outer disk 4 being integral with the stud and the strap 1 being held between the disks by upsetting a portion of the stud inside the inner disk 5, as shown. On the said inner disk 5 are tongues 6 extending substantially parallel with the stud, the said tongues being formed by punching out portions of the disk, as represented. e
Near the opposite end of the strap on the inner side thereof is secured a thin Vmetallic plate 7 in which is a longitudinally extending slot 8. The width of the slot is made less than the diameter of the head of the stud, and one side of the slot is notched or serrated as shown. At the end of the slot nearest the center of the strap 1 is a circular opening 9 of suliicient size to permit the head 3 of the stud to pass through the same.
Inv securing the strap upon the trousers, the stud is pushed through the fabric at a suitable distance below the top of the waistband Y, the tongues 6 being at the same time pushed into the fabric. The other end of the strap, carryin the plate 7 is then passed up over the top of the waist-band and down inside the same until the opening 9 is brought opposite the head 3 of the stud, as shown in Fig. 4. The head of the stud is then inserted in said opening and the strap pulled up until the neck of the stud rests at or near the bottom of the slot. The serration of the edge of the slot tends to prevent relative movement of the stud and plate and consequent accidental disengagement thereof. The tongues 6 by their engagement with the fabric distribute the pull thereon and reduce the liability of tearing the cloth at the stud by any pull which may be eX- erted on the strap. To remove the strap from the garment the above described operation is reversed, as will be apparent.
Now, having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, a strap, a stud connected with the strap near one end thereof and having a pointed head adapting the same to penetrate fabric, and a plate secured to the strap near the opposite end thereof, said plate having therein a..
longitudinally extending slot with an enlargement therein to permit the head of the stud to pass through the same.
2. In a device of the class described, a strap, a stud having a pointed head and being connected with the strap near one end of the same, and a plate secured to the strap near the other end thereof, the-re being a longitudinal serrated slot in said plate and an enlarged portion in said slot of a size to permit the head of the stud to pass through the same.
3. In a device of the class described, a strap, va stud secured to said strap near one end thereof, tongues connected with the Strap and extending` substantially parallel subscribed my name in the presence of two with the stud dztnd acljoinng the saine, znd Witnesses. a ate secure to t e strap meant e ot er eng thereof, said plate having means adapt- CHARLES E' WINQUEST 5 ing the same to engage and retain the stud Witnesses:
in connection therewith. l ROY G. KRATZ,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto i D. O. BARNELL.
