IDA A. DONOHUE, OF ROME, NEW YORK.
DRAWSTRING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
Application filed April 10, 1908. Serial No. 26, l06.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IDA A. DONOHUE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drawstrings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to drawstrings, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a drawstring in which one of the ends is provided with a hook which serves as a tape needle for threading the drawstring through the hem of a garment, and the opposite end of said drawstring is provided with an eye to be engaged by said hook.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide means for holding the drawstring in position in the hem of a garment after it has been placed therein.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Figure l is a View of a child having a waist provided with a drawstring made in accordance with my invention, said waist being shown open at the bottom and the hook and eye of the drawstring separated. Fig. 2 is a view of the ends of the drawstring, the parts being connected together by means of a hook and eye. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken through a drawstring made in accordance with my invention, and showing a socket member of a ball and socket fastener detached from the drawstring in position to be engaged by the ball member of the fastener which forms part of the clasp. Fig. is a plan view of a slightly modified form of my invention, in whichthe hook and eye for the ends of the drawstring are provided with studs or buttons adapted to engage the garment to prevent the drawstring from displacement. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 6 is a slightly modified form in which an ordinary button is secured to the hook or eye member of the device.
Referring to the drawing for a more specific description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a drawstring of any suitable width and material, and connected to the opposite ends of said drawstring are the hook member 2 and the eye member 3. The hook and eye member may be variously formed.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the hook member is provided with a loop 4; to which the drawstring is connected, while the opposite end of the d'awstring is connected to a suitable eye plate having a central cross bar 5.
As shown in Figs. l and 5, the hook member (i is passed around the drawstring l and is provided with a projecting stud 7 designed to engage a buttonhole or eyelet in the garment to prevent the shifting of the drawstring. Upon the other end of the drawstring is an eye plate 8 provided with an eye 9 for engagement with the hook 10. The hook member 6 may be passed through the hem of the garment and thus serve as a tape needle.
As shown in Fig. 6, the plate 11 is connected to the drawstring l by doubling over a portion of the body of said hook, and the hook 12 is narrowe' at the outer end and gradually widens toward the opposite end. A button 13 is secured to the hook member 11, said button adapted to engage a buttonhole in the garment.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that my invention is of simple construction, can be quickly applied to a garment, such as a boys waist, or a ladys skirt, and that the ball and socket members a, Z) may be utilized for holding the drawstring in place.
My device can be manufactured at slight cost and has been found very eiiicient and desirable in use.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A. drawstring provided with a hook at one end, an eye at the other end, and buttons for connection with a garment, for the purpose described.
2. A drawstring comprising a hook memher and an eye member, means for connecting said members to the opposite ends of the drawstring, and buttons formed on the hook and eye members, substantially as described.
3. A drawstring comprising a piece of tape, a hook secured to one end of said tape and provided with a button, an eye member secured to the other end of the tape and provided with a button, said buttons being designed to engage with the buttonholes on the garment of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
IDA A. DONOHUE.
Witnesses:
CHARLES DONOHUE, JOHN J. GAWKINS.
