COMBINED SCARF-TIP AND FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,268, dated November 17, 1891.

Application filed October 28, 1890. Serial No. 369,633. (No model.)

Be it known that I, JOSEPH M. Fox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peeks kill, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Necktie Attachment, of which the following is a specification; and Ideclare it to be a full,clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to fastenin gs for the style of tie which consists of a bow having a band to pass around the neck, the free end of the band being secured by passing it through the tie and hooking on a pin fixed in the bow; and its object is to provide the said strap with a simple means for fastening the tie to the shirt-bosom to keep it from rising about the collar of the wearer. I attain the object by the means set forth in the accompanying drawings.

Fig. IV is an enlarged edge view of the fastener. Fig. V is an enlarged perspective view of the part A. Fig. VI illustrates the operation of clamping the part A.

My fastening consists of the two parts A and B, the part at of B being fastened to the necktie-band either by stitching through a hole 0 or by means of small clamping projec tions, as 1), punched outward from the plate, as shown in Fig. I. The outer end of this plate 0?. is bifurcated, as shown in Fig. IV, forming a semi-box end 71, the two sides being united by a rivet m, and one of the sides h being provided with a tongue f, bent inwardly, as shown. Reference to Fig. I will explain the further use of the fastener. After the tie has been properly adjusted the clasp A is turned to the position shown in Figs. I and VI. The edge of the lower portion of the tie and the edge of a plait in the shirt-bosom are inserted between the points of the spring, and being secured by the loop h the device becomes a fastener to prevent the tie rising about the collar.

In the manufacture of this device I do not wish to be confined to the particular shapes herein shown so long as I embody the principles of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. A necktie-fastener comprising the part B, having a casing h with an extension n for fastening to a band, a rivet m uniting the sides of the casing, and a slotted clasp A, retained within the said casing by means of the rivet m through the said slot, substantially as herein set forth.

2. The combination, in a necktie-fastener, of the casing h, provided with a tongue f, extension at, and rivet on, with the clasp A, provided with slot Z, adapted for engagement with the tongue f, substantially as herein set forth.
