STAY-PUT ADJUSTABLE scARF` Filed Jan. l0, 1947 ATTE! R N EYB umm Patented Jan. 10, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a scarf that is adapted to be worn about a persons neck, and more particularly to a scarf having means thereon which will retain the scarf in Xed position about the Wearers neck.
An object of the invention is to provide a scarf having interlocking notches along the outer edges thereof that will interlock to cover the desired area of the Wearers neck, and being adjustable through the medium of the interlocking notches, the area covered can be varied to suit the wearer.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of an embodiment of the invention in interlocking position;
Figure 2 is the same in normal position and Figure 3 is a rear View of the device showing a reenforcem'ent applied thereto.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the reference numeral Ill designates a neck scarf which can be of the horse-shoe cut pattern, a rectangular pattern or similar shape, and can be made of any desired material or knitted as desired.
In carrying out the invention, a plurality of relatively spaced inwardly tapered notches II are formed in the outer longitudinal edge I2 of the scarf adjacent the free ends thereof.
In use, these notches are interlocked as shown in Figure 1, to position the scarf around a persons neck.
The area covered by the scarf can be adjusted to suit the wearer, since any combination of notches may be used as desired.
Should the material be too flexible to be retained by mere interlocking of the notches, a reeniorcing tab I3 may be attached in any suitable manner to the rear of the scarf, and the tab is provided with notches I4 similar in al1 respects to and in alinement with the notches II in the scarf. Thus the notches II are strengthened so that the scarf is retained as protection as desired.
From' the foregoing description, it is believed that the construction and operation of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and it is to be understood that changes in the minor details of construction maybe resorted to, provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A neck scarf comprising a length of cloth material, adapted to encircle the wearers neck, and cover his throat, said material having a plurality of relatively spaced inwardly tapered notches along the longitudinal outer edge thereof at each end thereof adjacent the free ends, said notches being spaced at the outer end so that they are adapted to be interlocked with each other whereby the material is held in adjusted position about the neck, and a reinforcing tab having notches of similar shape and spaced to coincide with the notches in the scarf secured in any suitable manner to the rear of the scarf at each end thereof so that the notches in the tab are in alinement with the notches of the scarf at each end thereof whereby the area surrounding the notches is reinforced for better retention of the scarf about the neck.
