MITSUZIRO KOMURA, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
COLLAR,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led February 12, 1912. Serial No. 677,088.
To all whom t may concern: Be it known that I, MrrsUzmo KOMURA, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at San Francisco', inthe county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented vcertain new and useful Improvements in Collars;and I do declare-the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, s'uch as will enable others skilled struction, combination a'nd'arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure l is a perspective view of my improved collarI showing the ends fastened together in operative position, part of the Hap being broken away and in section to more clearly disclose the improved fastening means. Fig. 2 is a front view of the ends of the collar showing the same separated, parts of one end being cross sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. n l.
In carrying out the invention, I provide the inner or underlying end `of lthe collar band l'with a slit 2 which ,is preferably U shaped as shown. The material cut by the slit 2 forms a downwardly projecting tonguel 3 which provides one part of my improved fastening mechanism, the neck 13 of said tongue being at .its top and beneath the fold 10 between the collar band and its Hap l1.
-The edges of the slit 2 and tongue 3 are stitched or bound in any suitable manner to prevent fraying or raveling.
The co-acting part of my improved fastening is in the form of a rectangular or other suitably shaped notch 4 located in the upper edge of the outer or overlapping end 5 o the collar band. The notch 4 1s 4of sufficient width to receive the tongue 3 and is of suiiicient depth to prevent the casual disengagement of the tongue therefrom, and its bottom 14 is by preference disposed a less distance from the upper edge of the overlapping end 5 of the collar band than the neck 13 of the tongue 3 'is below the bend 10 between the bandand tne flap 11. This detail of construction permits the overlapping Patented Apr'. 15, 19'13.
end 5 to pass up under the 'flap 11 at the 4other end of the collar and close to its -fold 10, as seen in Fig. .1.. The edges of the notch are stitched or otherwisebound to prevent fraying or raveling.
The tongue 3 in the end 1 and the notch in the end 5 of the collar are located at such 'Y positions relative to each other and to the regular button holes 6 in the ends of the collar that when said button holes are engaged with the collarbut-ton the notch 4 will be brought into posit-ion for engagement with the tongue andvwhen thus engaged will securely hold the upper portion of the ends of the outer. flap or fold of the collar in contact yor close engagement thus producing the closed front eli'ect.
. It will be noted that my improved fastenjing device is formed entirely as a part of the collar and vdoes ,not require any additional material and very little additional labor in forming or constructing the same, therefore a collar constructed with my improvements canbe made for substantially the cost of producing an ordinary collar of thisstyle.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readil understood without requiring a more exten ed explanation.
AVarious changes in lthe form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the'advantages of this invention as defined.
Having .thus described the invention what I claim is:
The'herein described turn-down collar whose band is rovided near its inner or underlying end with a U-shaped slit producing an integral downwardly-projecting tongue whose neck-is adjacent the fold between said band and the flap of the collar, and the outer or overlying end of whose band is provided in its upper edge with la notch Whose bottom is nearer said edge than the distance between the neck of the tpngue and the fold above it, both said ends being promy hand in presence of two. subscribing witvided with button holes for the collar-button nesses. 4
so disposed relatively to the tongue and notch that. when the latter are engaged the 5 holes are in register and the upper corners Witnesses of the flap stand in juxtaposition. C. W. MELODY,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set C. E. KROGHNKE.
