Description
F. STUART. N ECKTIE FORM. APPLICATION FILED JULY 9,1920.
1,380,267. Patented May 31, 1921. I
W 57., My
witness; AT'IORNEY.
UNITED STATEISYP PATENT, OFFICE.
FREDRIK STUART, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
NEcKTm-Fonnt.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, F REDRIK STUART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in' Necktie- Forms, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to apparel and more particularly to apparel apparatus and has for an object to provide a necktie form adapted for the ready arrangement of a tie or similar member into a desired shape or configuration and the application thereof to the person to afford a distinctive and neat effect.
The invention comprehends among other features the provision of a form which can be cheaply manufactured and which can be readily and quickly applied to and be held and carried by the usual collar button or other similar device supported on the neck band of the shirt, the tie member being also of a simple but effective appearance, and capable of being artistically arranged in conformity with the particular shape and construction of the form to provide a tie which will have a pleasing appearance.
In the further disclosure of the invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which,
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the tie holder and a tie arranged in proper position relatively to a collar.
Fig. 2-- is an enlarged rear elevation of the form and tie.
Fig. 3- is an elevation of the form by itself, and
Fig. 4- is an elevation of a modified form of the form.
Similar numerals designate corresponding parts in Figs. 1 to 3 to which reference will first be made.
I disclose a collar 10 applied to a neck band of the usual shirt 11 by a collar button 12 which serves to support the form 13 and a tie member 14:. The form as disclosed in Figs. 2 and 3, comprises a single piece of relatively thin flat material such as celluloid or sheet metal or the like, but of sufficient resiliency to present a substantially firm or still body, the upper end of which is formed to provide Specification bf Letters Patent.
a plurality of relatively flared ears 15, the upper central portion ofthe body being formed with a vertical slot 16 which may have suitable supplementay cross slots 17 communicating therewith in order to facilitate the ready insertion of the collar button 12 through the slot 16. The side and bottom edges of the body are formed with slits 18 which maybe arranged in parallel pairs along the side edges and relatively inclined along the lower corners or edges with a (central vertical slot 19 extending upwardly from the lower edge of the body. The slits are preferably enlarged at their inner ends as shown and by reference to the views, it will be seen that the tie member 14 ordinarily consisting of a fiat strip of material such as a ribbon or band, can be conveniently and quickly lapped over the upper end and arranged against the face of the form with portions of the material drawn into the central opening and slits so as to form what might be termed the head or knot portion 20 of the tie and the depending or tail portion 21 thereof, the drawing of certain portions of the tie memher into the slits providing graceful and artistic folds by reason of the gathering of P19310115 of the tie member in the mentioned s 1 The tie member may be applied to the form and fashioned thereto each time that it is desired to wear the tie or after being once applied to the form, it may be sewed or secured thereto by a suitable thread or cord 22, Fig. 2.
In Fig. 4, I show a slightly modified form of my construction and'in which the form is fashioned and constructed from wire 23, providing however slits 24 similar to the slits 18, 19, and a central slot portion 25 similar to the slot 16 with the wire also formed to provide ears 26 which correspond to the ears 15.
It will be apparent that the provision of the ears relatively diverging at the upper portion of the form in both instances, not only provide for the folding over of the upper edge of the tie member upon the form, but also tend to properly position the form and tie when the same are applied to the shirt and collar in the manner indicated, such disposition of the form and tie member serving with the aid of the collar, to hold the upper folded over portion of the tie member against accidental removal.
, Patented May 31, 1921. 1 Application filedJuly 9, 1920. Serial No. 395,041.
It will be understood that I do not myself to the particular construction set out in the drawings and described in the specification; that various slight changes may be made without departing from the" and also having slits reaching inwardly from its side edges, at intermediate points in the length-thereof, and other slits reaching upwardly from its lower end, and a fabric member lapped over the upper end of the form and secured in the vertical central 'openingthereof and having foldsadisposed andheld inithe slits of the form.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. 20
I FREDRIK "STUART;
