Be it known that I, ANNA MGDERMOTT,
a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Toledo, Lucas county,
5 ,Ohio, have invented new and useful Headwear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to headw'ear.
This invention has utility when embodied in a device for variously shielding portions of the head or neck of the wearer and being particularly adapted for iise as an automobile veil, a yachting hood, or an opera scarf.
Among the objects of this invention is the provision for headwear service of a device of attractive appearance, readily adaptable to varied conditions of use. r
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the invention with the flap held in position as a veil over the face of the wearer and with the ends of the article thrown about the neck; Fig. 2 shows in full lines the article with the flap folded underneath the hood portion thereof to expose the face, and with the ends of the article tied in a bow in front; Fig. 3 shows a pair of the fasteners adapted to hold the flap as well as coact with the hood portion or with the flap; Fig. 4 shows the hoodporwith the flap in face shielding position and .held thus by the fasteners, while the ends are left flowing in front; Fig. 5 shows the hood drawn and fastened under the chin with the veil-portion or. flap in' face shielding position, while the ends of the article are left flowing in front; and Fig. 6 is a view on a reduced scale of the article besembled.
The article is shown as comprising a single strip of material having the flowing end portions 1 shown as finished in a decorative way as'by hemstitching 2. Medially of the length of the material and from one side thereof is the flap or veil portion 3 which may also be provided with a finished portion say by hemstitching 4:.

Between this ba'ck gathering 8 and the flap 3 is a second gathering 9 shown as of loop form and also containing a yieldable cord or tion to shield the face with the reentrant portions 5 permitting the fasteners 6 to clasp at the back of the head and thus hold the face shielding portion 3 over the wearer. The yieldable gatherings 8' and 9 permit the hood portion 11 to properly shape to the head of the wearer, while the end portions of the article 1 are thrown loosely back over the shoulders of the wearer.
Fig. 2 shows in full lines the article worn as a hood and with the flap turned back underneath the hood 11 with the ends of the article tied beneath the wearers chin to form the bow 1". In this view (full lines) the face shielding ortionof the veil or article is folded with1n the hood, while in the dash line 3" is shown this veil portion or flap thrown back over the outside of the hood and so held by fasteners 6" as indicated in the dotted line showing, and the flap 3" may have its fasteners 6 coact with the hood fasteners 10 to hold the flap in a medial position over the hood section 11.
