CAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 5, 1905.
Application filed May 19,1905. Serial No. 261,097.
To tl/ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP A. CONNE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Convertible Tourist and Automobile Gaps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in convertible tourist and automobile caps, and has for its object to provide a cap of the above character which may be quickly and easily converted from a cap which to all appearances is a tourists cap into an automobile-cap, the goggles being located in the body of the cap and the vizor being used as a face-protector.
A further object is to provide a cap of the above character having an elastic portion at its back, so as to render the cap suitable for use in connection with heads of different sizes.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 is a front view showing the parts in the, position which they assume when the cap is used as an automobile-cap with the vizor used as a face-protector. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front view of the cap with the vizor folded back within the cap. Fig. 4 is a vertical central section from front to rear through the same. Fig. 5 is a side view of the cap when the parts are in position for use as a tourist-cap; and Fig. 6 is a vertical central section from front to rear through the same.
The body of the cap is denoted by 1, and it is provided at its rear portion with an elastic strap 2, which strap is located between the band 3 and the outer portion of the cap.
The front of the body portion of the cap is provided with goggles & of well-known and approved construction. A vizor 5 is hinged at its opposite ends to the bottom of the body portion of the cap, as shown at Sand 7. This wardly onto the top of the vizor. In the present instance I have shown the vizor as being provided with three studs 8, which may be removably interlocked with sockets 9, carried by the body portion of the cap just above the goggles 4.
The vizor 5 is so hinged to the bottom of the body portion of the cap that when the vizor is released from its engagement with the cap above the goggles at the vizor may either be swung down into position to form a face-protector, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or may be folded within the cap, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4c. The goggles 4: are so arranged that when the vizor is unfastened from the body portion of the cap above the goggles and the cap pulled down upon the head of the wearer the goggles will be brought into position to protect the eyes of the wearer. This is true whether the vizor be folded within the cap or swung down to form a face-protector.
\V hat .1 claim as my invention is 1. A convertible tourist and automobile cap comprising a body portion having goggles therein and a vizor hinged to the body portion and arranged to be removably secured thereto above the goggles whereby the vizor may be swung down into position to be used as a face-protector or folded within the cap as desired.
2. A convertible tourist and automobile cap comprising a body portion having goggles at its front, a vizor hinged to the body portion and fastening devices for removably securing the vizor to the front of the body portion above the goggles with the goggles folded inwardly upon the top of the vizor.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 10th day of May, 1905.
