UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC PACHNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GAP.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC PACHNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to caps of the kind known as bicycle or outing caps, and the invention consists in providing such a cap with a holding flap which can be swung or moved to raised or approximately perpendicular position for holding the front portion of the crown of the cap raised or said holding flap can be swung down onto the vizor to cover or lie upon the same, and the crown can be left raised or elevated. Such vizor if made of transparent material, when the flap is raised will permit a View while protecting the eyes against wind or dust, and when the flap is lowered such vizor is covered or concealed.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawing in which Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a cap with its front drawn down. Fig. 2 is a like view showing the cap front raised. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the ca showing the holding flap in its raised positlon.
In this drawing is shown a cap having a flexible crown a of the material usually employed. The cap can have a lining and a sweat band if desired.
A vizor is shown at d. A holding flap e of crescent shape is attached at its concave edge to the crown in juxtaposition to the inner edge of the vizor. This holding flap is designed to be folded upon the upper side of the vizor or to be folded up therefrom. When folded up to raised or approximately vertical position the flap will hold the flexi ble front part of the crown in raised position but said flap when folded down onto Patented Feb. 2, 1909.
Serial No. 453,390.
the vizor may leave the front part of the crown raised as the front or convex edge and the crown are not secured to one another.
Or the crown may be allowed to fall onto the top of the vizor. The vizor may be of transparent material if desired, celluloid or the like so as to protect the eyes against wind and dust and the flap when raised will allow vision through such vizor or the flap when down covering the vizor to give the same an ordinary appearance of vizor. When the flap is down the front part of the crown can be left raised or can be lowered if desired. The flap has flexibility to permit it to be folded down upon and to conform to the convex configuration of the vizor so that when swung or snapped up it will remain in raised position.
I do not herein claim anything disclosed in U. S. Patent 563,053, of 30 June 1896 for cap.
I'Vhat I claim is A cap having a transparent vizor and a flexible crown provided at its front portion with a flexible crescent shaped holding flap the concaved edge of which is attached to the crown in juxtaposition to the inner edge of the vizor, said flap being foldable up from the vizor or to an approximately perpendicular position to hold up the crown and being detached from the crown so that when lowered it will permit the front of the crown to remain raised while covering said vizor and when raised it will leave the view through the vizor unobstructed and prevent the crown front from coming to the vizor.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ISAAC PACHNER. Witnesses CHRISTIAN ALMSTAEDT,
EDWARD WIESNER.
