Abstract

A head hair covering device for covering a user's hair includes a shell, which is resiliently flexible and in which an opening is positioned. A band, which is resiliently stretchable, is attached to the shell and extends circumferentially around a perimeter of the opening. The band can be stretched to allow for partial insertion of a user's head, whereupon the band rebounds to engage the shell to the user's head. The perimeter of the shell is substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user and he shell covers hair on the scalp. Each strap of a pair of straps is attached to the perimeter on a respective opposed side of the shell, thereby defining a loop. The loop can be positioned around a respective ear of the user to secure the shell to the head of the user, with the ears of the user being exposed.

    • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (1) Field of the Invention
  • The disclosure relates to covering devices and more particularly pertains to a new covering device for covering a user's hair. The present invention discloses a covering device for covering head hair of a user and which is held in place by an elastic band, which is substantially aligned with a hairline of the user, and a pair of straps, each of which is positionable around a respective ear of the user.
    • (2) DESCRIPTION OF RELATED ART INCLUDING INFORMATION DISCLOSED UNDER 37 CFR 1.97 AND 1.98
  • The prior art relates to covering devices, which may comprise bathing caps that cover ears of users, swimming caps that leave ears of users exposed, and caps worn while sleeping to deaden ambient noises by positioning pads over ears of users. Related prior art comprises flexible bands for positioning over bathing caps to seal the caps, with cutouts being positioned in the bands to accommodate ears of the users. What is lacking in the prior art is a covering device comprising a shell for positioning on a head of a user and having a pair of straps, each of which is positionable around a respective ear of the user.
    • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a shell, which is resiliently flexible and in which an opening is positioned so that the shell is configured for partial insertion of a head of a user. A band, which is resiliently stretchable, is attached to the shell and extends circumferentially around a perimeter of the opening. The band is configured to be stretched to allow for partial insertion of the head of the user through the opening and into the shell. The band is configured to rebound to frictionally engage the shell to the head of the user, with the perimeter of the shell being substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user. The shell thus is configured to cover hair on the scalp. Each strap of a pair of straps has opposed ends that are attached to the perimeter on a respective opposed side of the shell, thereby defining a loop. The loop is configured to be positioned around a respective ear of the user to secure the shell to the head of the user, with the ears of the user being exposed.
  • Another embodiment of the disclosure includes a method of covering head hair comprising a first step providing a shell, as described above, and additional steps for positioning the shell on a head of a user so that that head hair of the user is covered.
  • There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
  • The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

  • FIG. 4 is a flow diagram for a method utilizing an embodiment of the disclosure.
    •  DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 4 thereof, a new covering device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 4 , the head hair covering device 10 generally comprises a shell 12, which is resiliently flexible and in which an opening 14 is positioned so that the shell 12 is configured for partial insertion of a head of a user. The shell 12 is either porous, and thus configured for air exchange, or substantially nonporous, and thus configured to prevent water permeation. The shell 12 comprises porous elastomer, cloth, such as silk or the like, or nonporous elastomer. The shell 12 is sized to accommodate a volume of hair on the head of the user.
  • A band 16, which comprises rubber, silicone, or elastomer and which thus is resiliently stretchable, is attached to the shell 12 and extends circumferentially around a perimeter 18 of the opening 14. A scalp sheath 20, which comprises porous elastomer or cloth, such as silk or the like, is positioned around the band 16 to increase comfort of the user. The band 16 is configured to be stretched to allow for partial insertion of the head of the user through the opening 14 and into the shell 12. The band 16 is configured to rebound to frictionally engage the shell 12 to the head of the user, with the perimeter 18 of the shell 12 being substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user. The shell 12 thus is configured to cover hair on the scalp.
  • Each strap 22 of a pair of straps 22 has opposed ends 24 that are attached to the perimeter 18 on a respective opposed side 26 of the shell 12, thereby defining a loop 28. The loop 28 is configured to be positioned around a respective ear of the user to secure the shell 12 to the head of the user, with the ears of the user being exposed. The strap 22 comprises rubber, silicone, or elastomer and thus is resiliently stretchable. The strap 22 is configured to be stretched to allow for insertion of the respective ear and then to rebound to secure the shell 12 to the head of the user. Each ear sheath 30 of a pair of ear sheathes 30 is positioned around a respective strap 22. The ear sheathes 30 comprise porous elastomer or cloth, such as silk or the like, and serve to increase comfort of the user.
  • As shown in FIG. 1 , the strap 22 comprises a pair of sections 32. Each fastener 34 of a pair of fasteners 34 is attached to a respective section 32 of the strap 22 distal from the shell 12. The fasteners 34 are selectively mutually couplable to secure the strap 22 around a respective ear of the user. The pair of fasteners 34 may comprise a hook and loop fastener 36, or other fastening means, such as, but not limited to, button closures, snap closures, or the like.
  • In use, the head hair covering device 10 enables of method of covering head hair 38, which comprises a first step 40 of providing a head hair covering device 10 according to the specification above. A second step 42 of the method 38 is stretching the band 16 to expand the opening 14 in the shell 12. A third step 44 of the method 38 is partially inserting the head of the user through the opening 14 into the shell 12. A fourth step 46 of the method 38 is adjusting the band 16 to substantially align with the hairline of the scalp of the user. A fifth step 48 of the method 38 is allowing the band 16 to rebound. A sixth step 50 of the method 38 is positioning each strap 22 over a respective ear of the user.
  • With the shell 12 comprising porous elastomer or cloth, such as silk, the shell 12 is breathable and can be worn to bed by a user to help retain the user's hair style, without inducing sweating and buildup of moisture between the shell 12 and the scalp of the user. With the shell 12 comprising nonporous elastomer, the shell 12 is impermeable to water and can be used while bathing. The ears of the user remain exposed so that they can be cleansed.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims (14)

I claim:
1. A head hair covering device comprising:
a shell, the shell being resiliently flexible;
an opening positioned in the shell, wherein the shell is configured for partial insertion of a head of a user;
a band attached to the shell and extending circumferentially around a perimeter of the opening, the band being resiliently stretchable, wherein the band is configured for stretching for partial insertion of the head of the user through the opening into the shell and for rebounding for frictionally engaging the shell to the head of the user, such that the perimeter of the shell is substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user, wherein the shell is configured for covering hair on the scalp; and
a pair of straps, each strap having opposed ends attached to the perimeter on a respective opposed side of the shell defining a loop, wherein the loop is configured for positioning around a respective ear of the user for securing the shell to the head of the user, such that the ears of the user are exposed.
2. The head hair covering device of claim 1, wherein the shell is one of porous or substantially nonporous, wherein the shell is configured for air exchange or for preventing water permeation, respectively.
3. The head hair covering device of claim 2, wherein the shell comprises porous elastomer, cloth, or nonporous elastomer.
4. The head hair covering device of claim 1, wherein the band comprises rubber, silicone, or elastomer.
5. The head hair covering device of claim 1, wherein the strap is resiliently stretchable, wherein the strap is configured for stretching for insertion of the respective ear and for rebounding for securing the shell to the head of the user.
6. The head hair covering device of claim 5, wherein the strap comprises rubber, silicone, or elastomer.
7. The head hair covering device of claim 1, further including:
the strap comprising a pair of sections; and
a pair of fasteners, each fastener being attached to a respective section of the strap distal from the shell, the fasteners being selectively mutually couplable for securing the strap around a respective ear of the user.
8. The head hair covering device of claim 7, wherein the pair of fasteners comprises a hook and loop fastener.
9. The head hair covering device of claim 1, further including a scalp sheath positioned around the band, the scalp sheath comprising porous elastomer or cloth.
10. The head hair covering device of claim 1, further including a pair of ear sheathes, each ear sheath being positioned around a respective strap, the ear sheathes comprising porous elastomer or cloth.
11. A method of covering head hair comprising the steps of:
providing a head hair covering device comprising:
a shell, the shell being resiliently flexible,
an opening positioned in the shell, wherein the shell is configured for partial insertion of a head of a user,
a band attached to the shell and extending circumferentially around a perimeter of the opening, the band being resiliently stretchable, wherein the band is configured for stretching for partial insertion of the head of the user through the opening into the shell and for rebounding for frictionally engaging the shell to the head of the user, such that the perimeter of the shell is substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user, wherein the shell is configured for covering hair on the scalp, and
a pair of straps, each strap having opposed ends attached to the perimeter on a respective opposed side of the shell defining a loop, wherein the loop is configured for positioning around a respective ear of the user for securing the shell to the head of the user, such that the ears of the user are exposed;
stretching the band to expand the opening in the shell;
partially inserting the head of the user through the opening into the shell;
adjusting the band to substantially align with the hairline of the scalp of the user;
allowing the band to rebound; and
positioning each strap over a respective ear of the user.
12. The method of covering head hair of claim 11, wherein the shell is porous, wherein the shell is configured for air exchange.
13. The method of covering head hair of claim 11, wherein the shell is substantially nonporous, wherein the shell is configured for preventing water permeation.
14. A head hair covering device comprising:
a shell, the shell being resiliently flexible, the shell being one of porous or substantially nonporous, wherein the shell is configured for air exchange or for preventing water permeation, respectively, the shell comprising porous elastomer, cloth, or nonporous elastomer;
an opening positioned in the shell, wherein the shell is configured for partial insertion of a head of a user;
a band attached to the shell and extending circumferentially around a perimeter of the opening, the band being resiliently stretchable, wherein the band is configured for stretching for partial insertion of the head of the user through the opening into the shell and for rebounding for frictionally engaging the shell to the head of the user, such that the perimeter of the shell is substantially aligned with a hairline of a scalp of the user, wherein the shell is configured for covering hair on the scalp, the band comprising rubber, silicone, or elastomer,
a pair of straps, each strap having opposed ends attached to the perimeter on a respective opposed side of the shell defining a loop, wherein the loop is configured for positioning around a respective ear of the user for securing the shell to the head of the user, such that the ears of the user are exposed, the strap being resiliently stretchable, wherein the strap is configured for stretching for insertion of the respective ear and for rebounding for securing the shell to the head of the user, the strap comprising rubber, silicone, or elastomer, the strap comprising a pair of sections;
a pair of fasteners, each fastener being attached to a respective section of the strap distal from the shell, the fasteners being selectively mutually couplable for securing the strap around a respective ear of the user, the pair of fasteners comprising a hook and loop fastener;
a scalp sheath positioned around the band, the scalp sheath comprising porous elastomer or cloth; and
a pair of ear sheathes, each ear sheath being positioned around a respective strap, the ear sheathes comprising porous elastomer or cloth.
