MAYER KATOHER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Sept. 21, 1915.
Application filed February 6, 1915. Serial No. 6,656.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAYER KATCHER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at No. 2:22 Rodney street, New York city, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in caps, more especially infants caps.
The object of my invention is to provide particularly for readily spreading out or taking apart the members or parts of the cap for washing and ironing the same and re-assembling or restoring the parts to original shape.
A further object is to provide for rendering the cap highly ornamental as well as to provide for quickly re-assembling or bringing together the parts after the laundrying operation.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be manifest from the disclosure of the same as will appear from the following.
The invention consists therefore of the instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter more fully disclosed and defined by the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made as to the details of carrying out the same without departing from the scope of the claims, and in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention or cap; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same; and Fig. 3 is a face view of the blank or constituent parts of the cap spread out as when partly disassembled.
In carrying out my invention I produce from suitable fabric the main member or part 1 giving it the preferred general rectangular outline or formation particularly as disclosed by Fig. 3, the ends of the same, however, being inclined as at 2, and tapered toward the lower edge of the blank as at 3, the bottom edges of the tapered resultant terminals 3, 3*, being slightly upwardly curved at their connection with the main body portion of the blank, as at 4. These tapered terminals are each provided with an aperture 5, near the extreme end or apex of the terminal, while one of said tapered end portions or terminals has a relatively enlarged opening 6 some distance from the aperture in that terminal or end portion. The lower longitudinal edge 7 of the member 1 has suitably applied thereto as shown or otherwise, a puckering ribbon 8 for bringing the rear or back end of the prospective cap into shape as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 by suitably manipulating said ribbon and tying it. The tapered terminal 3*, it will be observed, is suitably passed through the orifice or opening 6 and as such operation is efiected the terminals 3, 3 will be caused to assume the position particularly indicated in Fig. 2 thus providing for the overlapping the same upon the back of the cap bodyportion and effecting the closing of the opening which would otherwise result therein as is apparent, and which overlapping of said terminals, suitably "ornamented as disclosed, provides for imparting a highly ornamental appearance to the back of the cap. The body or main portion of the cap has suitably applied thereto in diagonal lines contiguous to the tapered terminals 3, 3 rows of buttons 9 or other suitable fastenings by means of which registering with the apertures 5, 5, in the extreme ends of said terminals the latter are secured in position and by effecting the adjustment of said apertures to different buttons or fastenings the size of the prospective cap may be varied as may be required.
A second member or section 10 suitably or preferably ornamented as shown is applied to the forward edge of the body member 1 for suitably stiffening the same at that point, the connection or application being effected by providing the body member 1 preferably with buttons 11 engaging suitably disposed or registering apertures 12 in the member 10. Suitable tying strings or means 13 are attached to the usual lower forward corner edges of the member 1.
As above indicated the advantages and benefits of my invention have been fully brought out, it is believed, namely, a cap of the type described whereby its constituent parts are readily separable for the laundrying of the same when necessary and which may be quickly re-assembled and restored to their original shape, while the resultant is an infants cap of the minimum parts and readily contrived or made.
I claim:
1. A cap of the type described, including a main or body member having a general rectangular outline with inclined ends terminating in lower tapered portions arranged to overlap the back end of said main or body member, said tapered terminals extending in Opposite directions, and means for the retention of said terminals in such position. 1
2. A cap of the type described, including a main'body member having a general rec tangular outline with inclined ends extending downward in tapered terminals, said terminals having apertures in their extreme ends, one of said terminals having a rela tively enlarged opening contiguous to one of said apertures and said body member having buttons or fastenings, one of said ta pered terminals extending through said ienlarged opening and said terminals overlapping the back of the cap and extending in opposite directions, and having their lesssized apertures engaging said fasteningsr 3. A cap ofthe type described, including a main body portion having a general rectangular outline, with inclined ends extending downwardly in tapered terminals, said terminals being arranged to extend one through the other and to overlap the back of the cap, said tapering terminals extending in opposite directions, and an additional rectangular member applied over said body member at the front, said body member being provided with fastenings engaging said tapered terminals and said additional'rectangular member. 1
4. A cap of the type described, including a member of general rectangular outline, with downwardly tapered terminals at its ends arranged to extend in opposite directions and overlie the back of the cap, said member also having a puckering string rove through its bottom edge, and said tapered terminalslhaving apertures in "their extreme ends, one of said terminals having additionally an enlarged opening, and fastenings applied tosthe first referred to member for engaging said tapered terminals. 7
In testimony whereof I' affix my: signature in presence of two witnesses MAYER KATCHER.
