MARGARET VARGINOFF AND GONRADE F. ELRICK, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
LADYS AUTOMOBILE CAP.
Application filed September 6, 1923. Serial No. 661,175.
T 0 all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Masonic-1r VARGIN- orr and CONRADE F. ELRICK, citizens of the United States. and residents of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improve- Automobile Caps, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, forming a partthereof.
Our invention relates to certain useful improvements 'in ladies automobile caps and has for its primary object a construction of cap which is made out of a single piece of material, light and flexible, which is easily applied to the head of the wearer and removed, and which may be folded when not in use so as to occupy. a very small space so that it may be carried in a pocketor in a hand bag. 1
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plain view of our cap laid out flat ready to be assembled for use;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing our cap partly assembled;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of our cap completely assembled showing the same as it appears when in use;
Fig. at is a rear view of assembled and Fig. 5 is an inside view of the cap when completely assembled.
Referring to the drawings, 6 indicates the body portion which is constructed out of suitable fabric, water-proof if desired, and having its opposite sides cut away so as to form U-shaped openings 7, and two rear flaps 8 and 9. The rear edge of the body portion 6 is gradually curved as at 10. In addition to the rear flaps 8 and 9. by forming U-shaped openings 7, front flaps 11 and 12 are formed. The front flaps-being slightly shorter than the rear flaps 8 and 9.
Formed integral with the body portion 6 is a forwardly extending portion 1?) which forms the peak of the cap when it is assembled. The body 6, he flaps 8 and 9, 11 and 12, and the peak 13 are all formed of a single piece of material. The underside of the peak 13 is faced and stiffened in any suitable manner.
Passing continuously around the body portion 6. flaps 8 and 9, 11 and 1'2 and the peak 13 is a single piece of binding material l t.
the cap completely Secured to the body portion 6, between the flaps 8 and 11 and 9 and 12, are loops 15. These loops extend fromthe flap 8 to the flap 1-1 and from the flap 9 to the flap 1),
as illustrated in Fig. 1, and are set back a short distance from the edges of the cut away portions 7. In these loops draw strings 16 are located.
Snap fasteners 17 are secured to the flaps 8 and 9 and likewise to the flaps 11 and 12. If desired, hooks and eyes may beemployed or pins, for securing the ends of the flaps 9 together. Snap fasteners however, being preferable. are employed so as to be adjustable.
After our cap has been constructed as heretofore described, the first operation in assembling it for use is to draw together tightly the ends of the draw strings 1 6 and tie them. The form the cap takes when this has been done is shown in Fig. 2. After the ends of the draw strings 16 have been tied together, the cap is then placed on the head and the two flaps S and 9 brought forso ward and secured together over the forehead of the wearer and beneath the peak 13. Then the two forward flaps 11 and 12 are brought rearwardly and over the flaps 8 and 9 and secured together in the rear of 35 the head of the wearer. Vhen the draw strings 16 are tied together, the binding and material are puckered together, as illustrated, so as to give the appearance of a rosette effect. the draw strings are located in the rear of the binding strip and the edges of the cut away portion 7, the'surplus material will be drawn in so as to close the openings.
As previously pointed out our cap may be constructed of any suitable material. either water-proof or washable material and may be folded up in a very small package, and when it is applied it is impossible for it to be blown off by the wind. It also 109 ward flaps, there being cut away portions 110 between the rear flaps and the forward flaps, draw strings for drawing the flaps toward A number of these fasteners 70 And in view of the fact that each other, fasteners carried by the rear flaps for securing the same together around the forehead of the wearer, and fasteners secured to the forward flaps for securing the same together and over the rear flaps.
2. A cap formed from a single piece of material having a body portion adapted to extend over the top and rear of the head and a peak adapted to extend over the forehead, a pair of rear flaps, a pair of front flaps sli; 'htl shorter than the rear flaps and spaced-apart from the rear flaps, loops extending from one of the rear flaps to its adjacent forward flap. draw strings located in said'loops for drawin; said, flaps tonether at their inner portions, means for detachably and adjustably connecting the rear flaps over the forehead of the wearer, and means for detaehably connecting the Front flaps over the rear flaps in the rear of the head of thewearer.
3. A cap formed from a single piece of 1,ees,313
material, having a body portion adapted to extend over the top and rear of the head, and a peakv adapted to extend over the forehead a pair of rear flaps, a pair of front flaps slightly shorter than the rear flaps and spaced apart from the rear flaps loops extending from one of the rear flaps to its adjacent forward flap, draw strings located in said loops for drawing said flaps together at their inner portions, means for detachably and adjustably connecting the rear flaps over the forehead of the wearer, means for det-chahly connecting the front flaps over. the rear flaps in the rear of the head of the wearer, and a continuous piece of binding material sewed completely around the body portion, rear flaps, front flaps and peak.
In testimony whereof, we have signed our names to this specification.
