drying, permanent waving, shampooing, hair waving, dyeing, etc.
Another object'of the invention is the construction preferably from a single piece of material a protector including a body with ear protectors and means for efliciently holding the protector in place on the head of the customer.
A still further object of the invention is the construction of a protector having integral ear protectors, and said ear protectors provided with edge strap sections which are formed into earengaging straps, for efficiently holding the pro- 20 tector in place when in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangement of parts as I will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in 25 the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention. I
Figure 2 is a side view, showing the device in use.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view, taken on line 3-3, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary view of the device, in elevation, showing the inside of the ear protector, and the strap.
, Figure 5 is a view in rear elevation of one end of the device, showing the same applied to the ear.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary plan view of the device, prior to folding over of the strap sections and securing the same in a continuous strap form, as shown in Figure 4.
In the drawing, in which is shown the preferred form of the invention, i designates the curved body which normally rests against the forehead of the wearer. At the middle of body I is a depending point 2 that normally registers with the nose of the wearer. At the ends of the body I are ear protectors 3.
The device is preferably formed from a single piece of material, which material may be any suitable heat-resisting substance;
In forming the device, the ear portions 3 are slit or cut at 4 around the outer edges thereof, producing strap sections 5, 5. After the blank is cut as shown in Figure 6, the edge strap-unit is preferably cut on the dotted lines A, and then are brought together as clearly shown in Figure 4, 5 with the abutting ends suitably fastened, as by stitching, whereby a continuous strap 6 is formed in connection with each ear protector, thereby allowing the device to be applied to the head of .the wearer, with no other means required than '10 said ear strap 6, to hold the device securely in place.
The device may be formed in different sizes, so that the operator can quickly and easily select the suitable device for the individual customer.
In the present invention it will be seen that the ear protectors are provided with the sole means for fastening the device in place upon the wearer; there is not required an encircling band on the head, nor any tying strings. My device is novel in structure and is easily applied to the wearer's head.
Referring to Figure 6, when the ear protector 3 has been slitted or cut at 4 to form the strap unit, and out along lines A, the strap sections 5 then are moved over to the dotted lines B, prior to fastening together, whereby when the device is on the wearer, with the straps behind the ears (Fig. 5) the ear protectors will entirely cover the ears, producing an efficient protection for the wearer, as is clearly indicated in Fig. 2.
' While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device or the character described, comprising a body for extending across and covering a persons forehead, flaps at ends of said body for covering a persons ears, and loops for engaging about a persons ears carried by said flaps with their front ends united to forward portions of said flaps.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a body for extending across and covering a persons forehead, flaps at ends of said body for covering a persons ears, and loops for engaging about a persons ears extending substantially circumferentially of said flaps with their front ends united to upper and lower portions of front ends 01 the flaps and their rear portions extending transversely of the flaps in spaced relation to rear ends thereof with the flaps extend- ?ng across and rearwardly beyond the loops.
; 3. A device. 01' the character described, comprising a Zody for extending across and covering personf' forehead, flaps extending rearwardly from and ownwardly below ends of said body for covering a persons ears and adjacent portions 10 of the face in front of the ears, and securing leo'ps for engaging about the ears'having their rear 'portions spaced forwardly from rear ends of said flaps and extending transversely of the flaps under the same in position for engaging 5 back 01' the ears.
4.,A device of the character described, comprising an elongated flexible body for extending across and covering 'a person's forehead, said mm P. qnmnm.
