F E Q EARLINE DALZELL, 0F HOUSTON, TEXAS.
PROTECTOR FOR BOBBED HAIR.
Application filed February 4, 1924. Serial No. 690,344.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EARLINE DALZELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, Harris County, Texas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Protectors for Bobbed Hair, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a protecting means to be employed to prevent disarranging of the hair of the user and is particularly adapted for use when the wearer is lying down or at night when the wearer is asleep.
I have found that the ordinary boudoir cap or bandanna sometimes used for this purpose is either ineffective to prevent disar ranging the hair or is so uncomfortable to the user as to be objectionable.
It is an object of my invention to pro vide a simple, and ornamental device for protecting the hair while in use, which may be easily and cheaply manufactured. and which will be easily applied and comfort.- able to the wearer.
Referring to the drawing herewith wherein a preferred form of my invention is shown, Fig. 1 is a plan view showing the constructionof the same. Fig. 2 is a top elevation illustrating the application of the invention to the head of a wearer with the device partly tied in place. Fig. 3 is a per spective view showing the device completely adjusted in position.
My .iair protector may be made of any desired sort of fabric such as silk, linen, or cotton, and may be thin like a veil or gauze, or may be of heavy substantial cloth. 1 con template cuttin j it with an approximately triangular shaped body 1., the rear edge 2 of which is curved outwardly to engage around the base of the wearers head. I prefer to place a short strip of rubber elastic near the central border as shown at 3 although a cord may be gathered therein for the purpose of conforming the protector to the shape of the head. I
On each side are ribbons or extensions 4 connected with the body portion. These ribbons are adapted to be tied together on the forward portion of the head. Extending directly forward midway between the side bands 4 is a central ribbon 5 similar in all respects to the side ribbons. A fourth ribbon 6 is secured by sewing or otherwise about centrally of the body portion 1 and extending forwardly over the central ribbon 5 as shown in Fig. 1. a
In applying the protection to the head, the rear edge 2 is engaged about the back of the head over the bobbed hair of the wearer. The two side ribbons are then brought upwardly and looped together over the forward band 5 and are there tied se curely. The forward band 5 is then looped backward and tied with the top ribbon 6 on the top of the head as shown in Fig. 3.
ll hen thus adjusted the device firmly confines the hair in place and is of particularly ornamental appearance. The knots are on top of the head where they will not cause discomfort to the wearer, but are also particularly easy to adjust or untie. While I have shown the protector almost entirely without ornament, this is done for clearness only, but it is intended that it shall be ornamented to meet the taste of the wearer.
What I claim as new is:
1. A hair protector comprising an approximately triangular strip of fabric, opposite side ribbons connected therewith, a forward.- ly extending ribbon midway between said side ribbons, a top ribbon connected with said strip and eitending forwardly over said forward ribbon and means to conform the rear of said strip to the head of the wearer.
A Lair protector comprising an ap- .y triangular strip of flexible mai -aving a rear side rounded to conforn to the hape of the head of the wearer, opposite side ribbons, a forward ribbon midway between said side ribbons and a top ribbon adapted to be tied with said forward ribbon.
3. hair protector comprising a three sided strip of fabric. two opposite ribbons thereon adapted to be tied together, a central forward ribbon and a top ribbon adapted to engage with said forward ribbon in the manner described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature this 30th day of January, A. D. 1924.
EAltLINE DALZELL.
