HEADWEAR.

rl`his invention relates to improvements in headwear, and has for one ot' its principal objects the provision of a cap or the like which can be worn on the head, and which will eifectively prevent glare in the eyes, while at the same time allowing ot a tree circulation of air about the scalp and hair ot' the wearer.

Another important object of vthis invention is to provide, in a species ot headwear, a very cheap yet durable construction, winch can be readily made up of only two parts,

and which, furthermore, various sizes of heads.

Still another and further important object of this invention is to provide a combination cap. and eyeshade which can be composed of quite a variety of materials, and which is particularly etfective for sports use7 while at the same time being attractive in appearance.

`Other and further important objects ot' the invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings and following specification.

The invention, in a preferred forma is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.

As shown in the drawings:

The reference numeral 10 comprises essentially an eyesliade or visor forming the main portion of the headwear orcap of this invention.

Also integral with the eyeshade member 10 and projecting in a rearward direct-ion Yfrom the ends thereof is a pair of tabs 14 one at each end, each tab being provided with a pair of slits 16 adapted for the reception of a headband member 18 in the form ot' a narrow strip of ribbon, which is preferably of the same material as that of which the eyeshade 10 and its appurtenant parts are composed. This band member 18 is adapted to encircle the wearers head, as best shown in Figure l, and its ends 2O are tapered so as to readily pass through slits 22 formed in the-end of the strip 127 thereby forming a supporting joint at the back ot the wearers head. The tab ineinbers 14 are bent upwardly to proper position to support the band 18, as shown in Figure 1, and a pair of slits 24; are provided in the member 12 n-ear its junction with the eyeshade member 10 for the reception oi' the corresponding portion of theheadband 18. The ends 20 of the headband 18 may be either bent over after the device is adjusted on the wearers head to secure the same and may then be glued or` pasted, or simply iett in bent-over position.

A slight modification of the invention is illustrated in Figure 4;. wherein the member 18 is formed with slightly enlarged ends 26, having outstanding` notched elements 28 for connection with the slots 22,v whereby the same will be prevented against accidental pulling out. A construction is hereby provided which can be fitted to a certain wearers head and thereafter used with that size.

Itis evident that herein is provided a form of headwear which is light and convenient., but whichV adequately protects the eyes and is therefore especially adapted for sports use. Further, the same will not blow oii even iii a high wind or under violent exertion, andfwill also allow free circulation ot air about the scalp and hair of the wearer.l

I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction varied throughout a Wide range Without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do notv purpose li1niting the patent granted hereon otherwise than as necessitated by the prioiI art.

I claim as my invention:

A species otI headwear, including two elements7 one element comprising an'v eye'shi'eld and a head strap and the other element coinprising a headband, the first element ineluding tabs integral with the ends of the eyeshield and having slits in said tabsadapted for the reception ol the headband, together with corresponding slits formed in the end of the headstrap for the reception of the ends of the headband.
