COLLAR. 1. l
`speicanonofneuers'rateat; Patent-,m1 New-,A135 1919,
Application meri. qaaeie, i919. serial No. 304,462.
Be it known that I, SYDNEY ALBERT, a citizen of the United States, and aresident oiE Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State oi Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Collars, ot `which the following is a specification.
- My invention relates to collars, and has reference more particularly to soft fold-collars wherein it is desirable to have the ends ol" the oldedbver top olf the collar held closely to the band of the collar.
The main object oi my invention is to provide means for holding a soft collar in shape as to be form litting.
Another object is to provide simple, cheap and efiicient means whereby the ends of the foldedbver top can be held closely to the band of the collar.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features ot construction, arrangement and combina tion ol" parts as will be hereinafte1--more 'lfully described and pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the drawing in which:
Figure il is a perspective view of a collar embodying my invention, A
Fig. 2 is a plan view of one end oi a so'l't :told-collar embodying my invention with the inside of the top of the collar opened out,
F ig. 3 is a similar view of the other end of A the collar.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, 5 is the band and 6 the top or :told-over of the collar, both of which may be made soi't or not starched stiiily; the band and top are of a type very much used and well known to the public, the flap having the button holes 7, 8, and 9 and the button 10.
rllhe top member 6 is folded over on the band 5 along its line of attachment thereto in the usual manner. y
ln carryingV out my invention, I secure to the inner tace of the top fold near one end a tape or strap 1l having at its 'free end a button engaging means such as a buttonhole 12; the other en-d oli this tape may be attached to the fold by stitching or other suitable means; the buttonhole 12 is to fit over the usual front collar button B as will be later reprovide a loop structure the opening thereoi.I having a direction approximately perpendicular to the line of fold between the band and the top.
(lne method olif securing such a loop is to stitch. to the inside oit' the top adjacent the end thereof, a strip of flexible material lid, the stitching being' done at the eXtreme ends la, thus leavinga free space l5 between the strip and the inner face of the top fold t as plainly seen in Fig. 2, and it will be noticed that by this method of .securing the loop that the tape or strip forming the same is disposed horizontally and that it is located at about the longitudinal axis or center of the fold member 6; it will further be noticed that by` so applying the strip that an elongated loop structure is secured so that the flat tape or strap ll can readily pass through the loop.
rlhe tape or strap ll is also llat and it is disposed at about the longitudinal axis or ierred to, but other means for engaging the.
opposite end oi. the top lold 6, l propose to center of the top fold member G, so that it will be in substantial horizontal alinement with the loop element on the other end oi the collar.
rlhe operation is as lollows:
The collar having been secured to the neclcband oi? the shirt by buttonhole, and the front ends of the collar connected in the usual manner and secured to the front collar button B, the tape or strap l1 is drawn across the space between the ends of the collar over the front flap F beneath the opposite end oi" top fold and threaded through the loop, pulled downwardly and forwardly and the buttonhole l2 engaged with the front collar button B; this draws the ends of the collar together and maintains them in place and prevents the top iold 6 from bulging out oit shape, and the collar from collapse by wilting.
. The use of the strap ll in no way interferes with the easy tying of a knot in the neclrtie, andindeed theneclrtie conceals the strap and its connections from view when properly positioned.
If desired the loop strip may be evolved by making parallel horizontal slits slightly spaced apart, in the inner layer of the top fold.
I claim i l. A fold-collar including a band member having a buttonhole adjacent one end adapted to engage a collar button, a foldovertop member, a flexible tape or strap atcached at one end to and extending` from the inner face of one end of said top ineinlier and having collar button engaging means at its free end, a horizontally disposed loop on the inner face of the opposite end of the said top member, said tape'or strap adapted to be passed through said loop and then connected With the collar button by the button engaging' ineans at its free end.
2. A fold-Collar comprising a band meinber having an end button hole, a fold-over top ineinber, a strap or tape secured at one end to the inner face o1 the folded top, adjacent one end and at approximately its longitudinal center, said strap having collarbutton enga-ging means at its free end, and a flat strip horizontall)7 disposed and rigidly secured at its ends to the inner face of the opposite end of the fold top and in horizontal alinelnent with the aforesaid tape or strap.
