7 Claims.
This invention relates to made-up neckties of the four-in-hand type and has for the primary object the provision of a tie of this character which may be easily and quickly applied and removed and adjusted when applied to retain a neat fit with the collar of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a tie of the above stated character which embodies a separable neck portion, end portions permanently connected with said neck portion and a knot-forming portion which may be readily adapted to the end portions to secure the latter in proper relation to each other and to bring about cooperation of said end portions with the knot portion to present the tie with the appearance of being hand tied in a four-in-hand fashion.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a fragmentary perspective View illustrating a necktie constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary rear elevation showing the knot portion adapted on the end portions of the tie.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view showing the connection between the neck portion and the end portions.
' Figure 4 is a fragmentary rear elevation showing a clamp adapted on the end portions and neck portion where said portions join.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary front elevation showing the clamp applied.
6 is a fragmentary rear elevation showing the clamp on the tie surrounded by a knot forming portion.
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken on line 'l-1 of Figure 2.
Figure 8 is a perspective view illustrating the blank from which the clamp is formed.
Figure 9 is a longitudinal sectional View showing the knot forming portion in full lines prior to being bent and showing in dotted lines the bending of said knot portion.
Figure 10 is a fragmentary rear elevation illustrating the tie with a modified form of clamp adapted thereto.
Figure 11 is a rear elevation showing the knot forming portion employed in connection with the clamp shown in Figure 10 prior to the bending thereof.
Figure 12 is a fragmentary rear elevation showing the modified form of knot forming portion adapted to the clamp shown in Figure 10 prior to the bending of said knot forming portion.
Figure 13 is a fragmentary rear elevation showing the knot forming portion bent into shape and of the type disclosed in Figure 11.
Figure 14 is a perspective view illustrating the blank from which the modified form of clamp is bent from.
Figure 15 is a perspective view showing a plate forming a part of the knot forming portion of the modification shown in Figure 11.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral l indicates a fragmentary portion of a made-up necktie of the four-in-hand type and consists of a neck portion 2, knot-forming portion 3 and end portions 4 and 5. The end portions 6 and 5 are stitched or otherwise secured to the neck portion 2, as shown in Figure 3. The width of the end portion 4 is greater than the width of the end portion 5 so as to cover the end portion 5 and to permit folding of a portion thereof about the end portion 5 to give the necktie a tied appearance where it leaves the knot forming portion 3, as clearly shown in Figure 1. The neck portion 2 includes an adjustable elastic portion 6 equipped with a separable fastener l to permit the neck portion to be opened and closed.
The knot-forming portion 3 consists of a clamp 8 and a bendable plate 9 provided with a covering if] of the same material from which the end portions are made. Padding H is arranged between the plate and the covering Hi so that said covering will be given a tied appearance. The padding is of the greatest thickness at the center portion thereof and gradually tapers towards its edges, as shown in Figure 9.
The clamp 8 consists of a bendable split band I2, one end of which is provided with a tongue i3 and the other end with a slot M to receive said tongue. The band 12 has integral therewith oppositely extending extensions or tongues l5 and also formed on one edge at opposite sides of one of the tongues are teeth H5 adapted to bite into the fabric of the end portions when the band 52 is brought about said end portions and fastened 4 by the tongue l3 being inserted through the slot M and bent over, as shown in Figure 5. The band l2 passing about the end portions causes the end portion 4 to curl about the end portion 5 for a limited distance, as shown in Figure 4. The
A necktie made up in the manner described employing the clamp and plate may be readily taken apart to permit the covering of the plate,
to be renewed if soiled and also permits easy cleaning or renewal of the end portions if soiled or damaged. The neck portion including the separable fasteners 1 permits said portion to be readily placed about or removed from the neck of a wearer. The neck portion is held tightly on the neck or within the collar of the wearer by the elastic strips so that'the knot portion 3 will be retained in proper relation to the collar to give a neat and attractive appearance.
Referring to my modified form of invention as shown in Figures 16 to 15, inclusive, a split band I6 is employed to make up the clamp and has extending from one edge of its plate-like portion an extension I! and the opposite edges have extending therefrom teeth IS. The ends of the strip portion are detachably connected by the tongue is being inserted through the slot 20 and bent over. This type of clamp when applied onto the end portions of the tie fold the end portion 4 properly about the end portion 5 for a limited distance and the teeth l8 thereof bite into the fabric of the end portion 4 with the extension ll disposed uppermost. A plate 2! is employed in combination with the form of clamp of the modification and has struck therefrom a loop or bracket 22 to receive the extension ll which after being passed through said bracket may be bent angularly, as shown in Figure 12. The plate 2| is covered With a fabric corresponding to the fabric employed in making the end portions 2 and 5 and after being applied onto the extension IT is bent about the clamp to present the knot to the tie. The general shape of the plate 2| is slightly different from the plate 9 so that when bent into knot formation will give the knot an appearance of a larger size than that produced by the plate 9.
What is claimed is:
1. A made-up necktie of the four-in-hand type comprising a neck portion, end portions joined to said neck portion, a separable clamp fitted about said end portions to fold one of the end portions about the other end portion for a selected distance, and means forming a knot portion surrounding said clamp with the neck portion and end portions extending outwardly therefrom at opposite ends thereof, and means for detachably securing said means onto said clamp.
2. A made-up necktie of the four-in-hand type comprising a neck portion, end portions joined to said neck portion, a split bendable clamp surrounding said end portions for folding one of the end portions about the other end portion for a selected distance, a bendable plate having a covering of the same material as the material of the end portions and foldable about the clamp to conceal the latter and to present a knot portion having the neck portion and end portions .ing outwardly therefrom at opposite ends thereof, and means for detachably securing said plate on the clamp.
