The collar has an annular body of falbric with a slot or slots lformed midway the ends thereof and variously arranged, for receiving the neckwear. The ends of the collar have snap fastening elements, each element `having a male part and a female part to permit reversal of the collar. p

This invention relates generally to neckwear and more particularly to holders for ascots, ties, cravats and other articles of neckwear.

A principal object of the invention is to provide a flexible band or collar `for wearing around the neck -with means `for supporting an ascot, tie, cravat or other article of neckwear.

Another object of the invention is to provide a one size, adjustable, reversible band or collar for wearing around the neck with means for supporting an ascot, tie, cravat or other article of neckwear to eliminate the shifting during wearing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind that is quickly applied and arranged as desired without tying knots, without forming permanent wrinkles, and without straining or pulling on the garment parts.

Yet 'another object is to provide the band or collar with fastening elements that permit either side of the band or collar to be presented.

Yet another object of the invention according to a modification is to provide a flexible band or collar for wearing around the neck with means for supporting and holding a bra.

Still another object lolf the invention according to a further modification is to provide a flexible band or collar for wearing around the neck with means 'for supporting and holding a head scarf or covering.

It is a further object of the invention according to a further modification to provide an article of neckwe-ar including 1a time piece.

For further comprehension of the invention and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had tol the following description and accompanying `'drawings and to the appended claims in which the various novel p features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring now more in detail to the various views of the drawings, in FIG. 1 there is shown a holder 10 for an ascot 12, the holder being `shown in position around the neck of a wearer. 'The holder 10 is constituted by a rectangular flexible collar `composed of a panel 14 of twoply material. One surface of the collar `for example the outer surface 16 may be plain and the other surface, the inner surface 18, as viewed in FIG. 3, may be provided with a design such as spaced diamond representations 20. A series of spaced snap fastener elements 22 is secured to the outer surface of the collar, `at one end thereof, and a series of spaced snap fastener elements 24 adapted to coact with the male snap elements is fastened to the Iother inner surface of the collar. The snap fastener elements, each element having a male part and a female part, are combined male and female snap fastener elements as shown in FIG. 3 so that they can coact with each other.

In accordance with the invention, the body of the collar 14 is formed with a pair of elongated closed upper and lower slots. 26 and 28, respectively, midway the ends thereof. The slots permit an article of neckwear, such as ascot 12, to be threaded therethrough and to be pinched around the material of the holder between the slots for holding the ascot in decorative position as shown in FIG. 1. The ascot 12 may have a plain outer surface 30 as viewed in FIGS. 1 and 2 and an inner surface with 4a decorative design thereon such as diamond representations 32 to match the decorative design of the inner surface 18 of the collar 14.

In use, the ascot 12 is threaded through the slots whereupon the holder is placed around the neck of the wearer and fastened thereon by snapping the male snap fastener elements 22 into the female snap fastener elements 24. The ascot will thus be draped over the chest of the wearer as shown in FIG. 1. In FIG. 4, the holder and ascot 12 are shown turned inside out or reversed in order to show the diamond design thereon.

The modified form of collar and ascot assembly shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 is the same as that of FIG. 1 except that the collar 14 is provided with a snap fastener element 22 and the ascot 12 with a complementary snap fastener element 34 to coact with the element 22 for fastening the ascot on the collar. Each of the snap fastener elements has a male part and a female part.

In FIGS. 8 and 9, another modified form of holder or collar and ascot is shown. In this form, the holder or collar 10 differs from the holder 10 of FIG. 1 in that instead of a pair of parallel slots, the body of the collar is formed with a horizontal slot 36 and a pair of vertical slots 38, 38 at the ends of the slot 36. With this arrangement of slots, the ascot 12 is threaded through the horizontal slot 36, around the top edge of the body of the holder or collar 10" and then one end of the ascot is threaded outwardly through one of the vertical slots 38 and the other end is threaded outwardly through the other of the vertical slots as seen in FIG. 8, leaving the ends of the ascot hanging free. The collar is provided with snap fastener elements similar to the snap fastener elements 22 and 24 of FIG. 1. Each element has a male part and a female part.

The modified form of holder or collar 10 shown in FIGS. 10 to 12, inclusive, differs from the holder or collar 10 of FIG. 8 merely in that another horizontal slot 40 is cut in the body of the collar and a female snap fastener element 42 is fastened centrally of the slot. With this arrangement of slots the ascot 12"' is first threaded through the horizontal slots and a loop or bow formed therein midway the ends thereof as indicated at 44 in FIG. 12, and the free ends of the ascot are then threaded outwardly through the vertical slots 38' in the directions of the arrows 46 in FIG. 11 to the outside of the collar to a position on each side of the loop or bow 44. A male snap fastener element 48 is inserted through an opening in the bow 44 and snaps into the female snap fastener element 42 on the collar to hold the ascot in folded condition.

In FIGS. 13 and 14, another modified form of ascot 12a is shown. The ascot 12a has an elongated two-ply fabric body with a box-shaped design 46 along one-half of one surface thereof and with a flash design 48 along the other half of said one surface. The opposite surface has the same nterlocked lloop design 50 for its entire length. Snap fastener elements 52 are secured to said opposite surface at one end thereof and snap fastener elements 54 to said one surface at the opposite end. The snap fastener elements each has a male part and a female part.

According to still another modification of the invention, shown in FIGS. 15 to 19, inclusive, the holder or collar 10X is adapted to hold or support a triangular shaped fabric garment 56. The collar 10X is provided with male and female snap fastener elements 22X and 24x, respectively, at the ends thereof for fastening the collar around the neck of the wearer as shown in FIG. 15 and is provided with a male snap fastener element 58 midway the ends thereof for fastening the apical corner end 59 of the garment 56 thereto by means of a female snap fastener element 60 on said apical corner. A male snap fastener element 62 is secured to one of the other corners of the garment 56 on one surface thereof and a female snap fastener element 64 is secured to the other corner of the garment on the opposite surface thereof for coacting with the male snap fastener element.

The holder or collar 10x and garment 56 assembly shown in FIG. 17 may be worn as a collar and bra 66 as shown in FIGS. 15 and 16 by fastening the collar on the neck of the wearer so that the snap fastener element 58 is at the front. The apical end 59 of the garment 56 is then inserted inside the front of the collar and the snap fastener element 60 thereon snapped onto the element 58. The base corner ends of the garment are then brought under the arm pits and around to the back of the wearer where the snap fastener elements 62 and 64 are snapped together as shown in FIG. 16.

In FIGS. 18 and 19, the garment 56 is shown used as a scarf 68 for covering the head of the wearer. When the garment is so used, the collar 10X placed around the neck of the wearer so that the snap fastener element 58 is at the rear of the head, and when the apical end 59 of tlhe garment is attached thereto, the garment is raised over the head as shown in FIG. 18 and then brought downwardly around and over the head covering the head, with the corner ends mounting the snap elements 62 and 64, tied into a knot 70 under the chin of the wearer.

FIG. 20 illustrates a modified collar and triangular garment assembly wherein the collar 10Xx has opposed snap fastener elements on the inner surface thereof and end snap fastener elements for fastening the ends of the collar. A pair of triangular shaped garments 56, 56XX is supported on the collar, one garment at the front and the other garment at the rear of the wearer, when the collar is around the neck of the wearer as shown. The corner ends of the bases of the garments have complementary snap fastener elements 22XX which snap over each other when the corners are overlapped as shown, The pair of garments thereby provide a sectional waist 72 for the wearer.

The modified neckwear shown in FIGS. 21 and 22 consists of a holder or collar 10XXX with complementary snap fastener elements 22XXX and 24XXX on the ends thereof. Midway the ends of the body of the collar, an elongated closed horizontal slot 74 is formed therein to receive one end 76 of a handkerchief 78, in spread-eagle fashion, at the front thereof. When worn the ends of the collar are at the rear and the handkerchief is at the front.

A still further modified form of neckwear is illustrated in FIGS. 23 to 25, inclusive. This neckwear consists of a holder or collar 10Tea supporting a wristwatch unit 80. Midway the ends of the body of the collar, a pair of spaced vertical slots 82, 82 is formed. The wrist watch runit consists of a watch case 84 with flexible straps 86 and 88 connected to the ends thereof. Strap 86 has a buckle 90 at its free end adapted to ooact with spaced holes 92 in the free end of strap 88 for securing the watch to the holder 10XXX In accordance with this form of the invention, a strap section 94 with buckle 96 hinged thereto is scoured to the inner surface of the collar IOXXX adjacent one end, and a section of strap 98 with spaced holes 100 is secured to the inner surface adjacent the other end for tying the collar around the neck of the wearer.

Referring now to the modified form of the invention shown in FIGS. 26 to 29, inclusive, herein is shown a holder or collar a and jabot or scarf 12X' assembly to be worn by a female as shown in FIG. 26. The collar 10a has coacting snap fastener elements 22X at the ends of the body of the collar for fastening the collar around the neck. Midway the ends of the body of the collar, three short slots 102, disposed in angular relation, are formed. The jabot or scarf 12X consists of an elongated fabric strip 104 having a body with curved side edges 106 and formed with an elongated rectangular extension 108. The scarf is turned upon itself at the juncture of the body and the extension, with the extension overlaping the rear surface of the body providing a loop 110 at said juncture to receive a generally V-shaped plastic clip 112 provided with a hook 114 extending through an opening 116 in the material of the extension and projecting outwardly of the extension. A strip 118 of lacework is placed on the front of the jabot to decorate the same and is secured in place by means of bal1-supporting pins 120 extending through the extension and body of the jabot. The jabot 12X is detachably suported by the holder or collar 10X by inserting the hook 114 through one of the slots 102 and hooking it over the edge thereof whereby it depends from the collar as seen in FIG. 26. The hook may terminate in an arrow-head 124 for insertion through a similar shaped opening 126 in a modified form of collar 12% as shown in FIG. 30.

The modified form of neckwear shown in FIG. 31 consists of a ready-made fourin-hand type fabric tie 128 with the usual outer and inner panels 130 and 132, respectively, hanging from a preformed knot 134. A generally V-shaped plastic clip 136 is enclosed and supported by the knot with the ends thereof projecting. A hook 138 is formed on the edge of the clip at its center for detachable connection with a collar such as collar 22X shown in FIG. 27.

Yet another modified form of the invention is shown in FIG. 32 in the form of a bow tie 140 adapted to be supported on a holder or col-lar 10XX. The holder is formed with a pair of spaced round lholes 142 and the tie is provided with an elongated bendable plastic clip 144 and secured flat against the tie by a wrap-around portion 146 of the tie. In use, the ends of the clip 144 are bent and inserted through the holes 142 and then bent again to hold the tie in place.

What is claimed is:

1. A convertible scarf holding and retaining collar cornprising an elongated rectangular body of textile fabric adapted to be positioned around the neck of a person, said body having a pair of elongated slots closely spaced from each other, in horizontal fashion, midway the ends thereof, said slots adapted to receive a scarf, the edges of said slots adapted to cooperate with the top edge of the body to hold a scarf in overlying relation to said body, crosswise thereof, and cooperating snap fastener elements on the ends of the body for detachably interconnecting said ends.

2. A convertible scarf holding and retaining collar as defined in claim 1 wherein the body is reversible with varying designs on opposite surfaces thereof and wherein the snap fastening elements each has a male part and a female part.

3. A convertible scarf comprising the combination of a scarf adapted to be worn draped over the chest of the wearer, and a free flexible split collar adapted to be worn around the neck of the wearer, said collar having free ends, means for detachably connecting said ends, said collar having a pair of closely spaced closed slots in horizontal fashion to slidably receive and hold spaced portions of the scarf to retain the scarf in overlying relation to the collar, crosswise thereof, said detachably oonnecting means including snap fastenerl elements on the ends of the collar, each element having a male part and a female part.

4. A convertible scarf comprising the combination of a scarf adapted to be worn draped over the chest of the wearer, and a free iiexible split collar adapted to be worn around the neck of the wearer, said collar having free ends, means for detachably connecting said ends, said collar having a pair of closely spaced closed slots in horizontal fashion midway the ends thereof to slidably receive and hold spaced portions of the scarf, a snap fastener element secured to the collar between said slots and projecting therefrom, and a snap fastener element carried by the scarf and adapted to coact with the snap fastener element secured to the collar to retain the scarf in overlying relation to the collar, crosswise thereof, each snap fastener element having a male part and a female part.
