SPECIFKCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 307,576, dated November 4, 1884.
Application filed July 10, 1893. (No model.)
To (LZZ 20720772, zit may concern:
Be it known that I, "WILLIAM A. NICHOLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Philadelphia, and State .of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful I mprovementsiu Devices for Protecting the Bosoins of Shirts and other Garments from Perspiration, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to a device for protecting shirt-bosoms from perspi ration; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described,-and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The main purpose of this invention is to provide a means for causing the upper portion, or that adjacent to the neck, of a bosomshirt or other garment to stand out at all times from the body immediately below the neck, in order to prevent the bosom of the shirt from becoming wet or soiled by the perspiration about the neck. At the same time a ventilating-space is secured between the bosom of the shirt and the body of the wearer. The device also serves the purpose of preventing the shanks of the usual screw-studs from coming into contact with the body, heretofore a well-known annoyance.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an oblique perspective View of my invention in a flexible form. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of a modification of elastic form in connection with a shirt-bosoin, and Fig. 3 illustrates the application of my device to the body of the wearer.
Fig. 1 shows my device ready for use, the same consisting of the longitudinal and transverse seetions of cords b, knotted together as shown, the longitudinal sections being provided with hooks h at their upper ends for securing the article to the neck of the undershirt, while the lower transverse section is provided with a cord, Z, for securing that portion of the protector to the body of the wearer; or I may use tabs for fastening said lower portion to the undershirt by buttons or otherwise; and, further, I may use a cord at the top portion of the device to secure it around the neck of the wearer.
In Fig. 2 I have shown a shirt-front, S, having a stud, s, in connection with the protector.
Having described my invention, what I claim is The shirt-protector herein described, consisting of the longitudinal and transverse sections knotted together, as shown, to form said protector, the longitudinal sections having hooks at their upper ends for securing the device to the neck of the undershirt, and provided at its lower portion with a cord for securing that part to the body of the wearer, as shown and described.
' In'testimony whereof I have hereunto atfixed my signature this 7th day of July, A. D. 1883.
NVILLl AM A. NICHOLS.
