COMBINED JACKET AND -WAIST.
forming part of Letters 1am No. 533,994,dated February 12, 1895.
SPECIFICATION Ap lication filed March 29,1893. Serial lim 68l 3 11196610 To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARCUS LOEWENTHAL, of the city, county, and State of New York,
I vided with a collar 0 which may be folded over the top edge of the jacket A.
The jacket A 'may have a collar of its 55 per portion of a skirt.
have invented a new and useful Improve- 5 ment in Blouses or Waists, of which the following is a specification. My improvement relates particularly to garments intended for childrens wear.
The object of my improvement is to'pro- 1o vide a garment which will have the appearance of a coat or jacket and shirt waist.
I will describe the garments embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front view of a jacket constructed to have the appearance, not only of an ordinary jacket, but also of a shirt blouse or'waist worn under a jacket. This view also represents the up- Fig. 2 is a view of the inside of the jacket spread out flat.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
A designates a jacket of ordinary, or other 2 5 suitable construction.
0 and this is made to represent a shirt waist or analogous article. This appendage consists of that portion of a shirt waist or analogous article which would ordinarily appear or be exposed to view when a jacket is worn over such an article, and comprises means for fastening it to the jacket. To explain more in detail, the appendage 0 consists of a skirt ,portion 0, which as shown is provided at the upper edge with buttonholes, c, for engaging a with buttons a, fastened to the inside or linin g of the jacket A, two facing portions 0 0 extending upwardly frornthe skirt portion 0, and provided with buttonholes c for engaging with buttons a, secured to the inside 5 or lining of the jacket A, and a neckband or cross-band 0 provided with one or more buttonholes, c, for engaging with one or more buttons secured to the inside or lining of the jacket A. 'The facing portions, 0 c, are con- 5o structed to be united; one being provided with buttons 0 and the other with buttonholes 0 The neckband or crossband is pro= own, so that it could be worn without the collar c Of course, I do not wish to be confined to buttons and buttonholes as a means for fastening the parts together or for uniting the facing portions, c c
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of a jacket or analogousarticle whose adjacent front edges are separated from each other, a shirt waist or blouse consisting of a body portion extending below the lower edge of said jacket and a facing portion which is exposed through the opening between the front' edges of the jacket, and means for detachably securing the facing portion to such front edges, and the body portion to the lower-edges of the jacket, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of a jacket .or analogous article whose adjacent front edges are separated from each other, a shirt waist or blouse consisting of a bodyportion extending below the lower edge of said jacket and a facing portion which is exposed through the opening between the front edges of the jacket, said facing portion-being provided with an opening, and means for detachably securing the edges of the opening in said facing portion, the facing portion to the front edges of the jacket, and the body portion to the lower edges of the jacket, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of a jacket or analogous article, a shirt waist or blouse consisting of a body portion extending below the lower edge of said jacket anda facing portion which extends u-pward opposite the front portion of the jacket, and means for detachably securing the facing portion to the front of the of the jacket, substantially as specified. I
name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
