Description

UNITED STATES HUGO LOEWENBACH, OF
PATENT GFFICE.
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
GARMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 711,666, dated October 21, I902.
' Application filed July 5,1902.
Serial No. 114,347. (No model.)
My invention relates to improvements in garments, with especial reference to the provision of meansfor utilizing the suspenderfastenings of trousers and similar garments for supporting the undergarment.
In a formerapplication filed by me November 27, 1901, and allowed May 22, 1902, Serial No. 83,876, I have described a form of construction in which the Suspender-fastenings are located between the waistband of a pair of trousers and the belt-band, which is secured to the waistband on each sideof the suspender fastenings by vertical lines of stitching.
The object of my present invention is to provide a reinforcing-strip for the suspenderfastenings, whereby the latter is supported from each side of the undergarment-loop, the efiect of this reinforcing-strip being to prevent the fastening from being pulled into an angular position, as well as to reinforce'the attachment.
In the following description reference is bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top view illustrating one form of my invention as it appears when applied to the waistband of a pair of trousers with the beltband pulled away from the waist and the button-shank broken olf in order to show the support of the und'ergarment-loop. Fig. 2 is a similar view in detail showing a modified form of construction. Fig. 3 is a side view of the form of reinforcing-strip shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a top View in detail, similar to Fig. 2, showing aform of reinforcing-strip secured at both ends to the waistband and belt-band; and Fig. 5 is a detail view of the inner face of the waistband provided with the invention shown in Fig. 4, partly broken away.
Like parts are identified by the same reference-letters throughout the several views.
1 is the waistband of a garment, such as a pair of trousers.
2 represents belt-straps similar to those shown and described in my former application, the straps being secured to the waistband at 3 by cross-stitching. In the form of construction shown in Fig. 1 each belt-strap 2 is provided with buttonholes at 4 between the lines of stitching 3, adapted to receive the head of the button 5.
undergarment, the button 5 being passed through this loop before being inserted through the buttonhole 4. ers are used, the button is also passed through the buttonhole of the suspender-strap before being inserted in 'the buttonhole 4. In the form of construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3, however, an independent strip 8 is employed, this being stitched to the belt-strap at 9 and provided with a buttonhole 10, registering with the button 5. In this construction'no buttonhole is provided in the belt-strap 2, the strip 8 serving to reinforce the button and performing the same functions in this respect as the belt-strap itself in the construction shown in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 4 a reinforcing-strip 12 is'employed 7' similar in character to the strip 8, but secured at both ends by. lines of cross-stitching 3, which also secure the belt-strap in position. This construction is preferred, as it reinforces the button more effectually than the strip 8 and no extra stitching is employed to secure the strip in position. It is also preferred over the construction shown in Fig. 1, for the reason that the button is not exposed, but is covered by the belt-strap, although the latter vantage, however, in the constructions shown in Figs. 2 and 3 is found in the fact that the button is more easily manipulated through the buttonhole.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with'the waistband of, a garment, such as trousers, buttons on the inner face thereof; and a reinforcing-strip extending over the button and secured to the waistband at each side thereof; said strip being provided with a buttonhole in registry with the button.
2. The combination with the waistband of a garment, such as trousers; buttons on the 6 is a supporting-loop connected with the may be omitted entirely, if desired. An ad-- Where suspendinner face thereof; and a reinforcing-strip connected with the waistband and provided with a buttonhole in registry with the button.
3. The combination with the waistband of a garment, such as trousers; of suspenderfastenings secured to the inner face thereof;
being'provided with a buttonhole registering with one of the buttons.
5. The combination of the waistband of a garment, such as trousers; of buttons on the inner face thereof; and a reinforcing-strip secured to the garment at each side of each button, and provided with a buttonhole registering with the button, said reinforcingstrip being secured to the waistband above and below the button, whereby the garmentloops may be inserted from below, and the Suspender-straps inserted from above, for attachment to the button.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HUGO LOEWENBACII.
