Description

I. SOHNEER.
SHIRT WAIST.
(No Model.)
N0. 566,940.- Patented Sept. 1, 1896.
INVENTOR WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC SOHNEER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHIRT-WAIST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,940, dated September 1, 1896.
Application filed July 18, 1896. Serial No. 599,638. No model-i To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC SOHNEER, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt-Waists, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to shirt-waists; and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient means for connecting the waist with the trousers or other garment to which it is to be attached.
To this end my invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is an inside View of a shirt-waist embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmental view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, A represents the body of a shirt-waist or like garment which is provided with a series of buttonholes'a therein. A supporting-strip B is connected to the inside of the shirt-Waist by its upper edge, as indicated at b. This supporting-strip is provided with a series of buttonholes c, which correspond to the spacing of the buttonholes in the body of the shirt-waist, and the lower portion of each buttonhole in the supportingband registers with the upper portion of abuttonhole in the shirt-waist, as clearly represented in Fig. 3. A series of buttons cl are secured to a removable button-carrying strip G, the spacing of which buttons corresponds to the spacing of the buttonholes a.
It will be observed that by this device a simple and eflicient means is provided for disconnecting the buttons from the waist when the same is to be laundered, and that the supporting-band B takes the entire strain of the button and the trousers or other garments secured thereto. It will also be observed that the securing means is contained entirely on the inner side of the shirt-waist, and that a neat and secure means for supporting the trousers is thereby provided.
It being understood that the supportingband B takes the entire strain upon the button, it will be understood that should the buttonhole of the supporting-band eventually wear through there will be a second or auxiliary buttonhole or support provided by the buttonhole a in the body of the waist,
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
A shirt-waist comprising a body portion having buttonholes therein, a supporting-band secured at the upper edge to the inside of said body portion and being provided with buttonholes, the lower end of each of which registers with the upper end of a buttonhole in the body of the waist, and a removable strip carrying buttons thereon which are projected through said buttonholes in the supporting-band and the body of the waist, substantially as described.
