GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed December 12,1906. Serial No. 347,491.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELBETUI N. CASE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Junction, in the county of Mesa and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Garment-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment-supporters and more particularlyto means for preventing accidental displacement of drawers and similar under garments by engagement with the trousers.
The object of the invention is to provide the drawers or under garment with a loop or strap adapted to receive the lapel or tab of the trousers whereby when the tab is fastened in position the same will support the drawers and effectually prevent the same from slipping or sagging without the employment of suspenders, clips and similar fastening devices.
A still further object of the invention is to generally improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency as well as to reduce the cost of manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification: Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of an under garment and trousers showing the manner of supporting the undergarment in position on said Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing the drawers fastened in supported position. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a'portion of the drawers or under-garment.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
The improved device is principally designed for preventing slippiug and sagging of drawers and similar under garments and by way of illustration is shown in connection with an under garment of the ordinary construction in which 5 designates the drawers or under garment and 6 the trousers or outer garment.
Secured to the front of the drawers 5 at a point adjacent the buttons or fastening devices 6 is a strap 7 preferably formed of cotton, linen or similar material of the same color and texture as the drawers and of sufficient strength to support the latter, said strap being arranged in a vertical position and sewed or otherwise permanently secured to the drawers at 8 to form a loop 9 adapted to receive the lapel or tab 10 of the trousers.
The lapel or tab 10 is provided with the usual buttonhole 11 adapted to engage a button or similar fastening device 12 secured to the trousers so that when the lapel is thread ed through the loop 9 and fastened to the button 12 the lapel will sustain the weight of the drawers and thus effectually prevent the same from sagging or slipping downwardly on the body of the wearer.
In operation the lapel 10 is inserted through the loop 9 of the strap and the perforated end of the lapel passed over the button 12, as best shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. It will thus be seen that the lapel 10 not only serves its usual function but by engagement with the 'walls of the loop 9 effectually prevents accidental displacement of the drawers or under garment.
While it is preferred to use a flexible strap or loop for V engagement with the tab or lapel 10 of the trousers it is obvious that any other suitable fastening device may be employed with equally good results.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that there is provided an extremely simple, inexpensive.
and eflicient device admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in view.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
1. An under garment having a loop secured to the exterior walls thereof at the front of the garment and adapted to receive the tab of the fly of a pair of trousers, and a fastening device secured to the interior walls of the trousers on one side of the fly of the latter and adapted to engage the free end of the tab.
2. An under garment having a vertically disposed loop secured to the exterior walls thereof at the front of the garment and adapted to receive the tab of the fly of a pair of trousers, said tab being provided with' a terminal button-hole, and a button secured to the interior walls of the trousers on one side of the fly of the latter and adapted to engage the button-hole in said tab.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own. I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
ELBERT N. CASE.
